Hello Listers My name is John and I am researching the Belchamber surname.I am putting this on the list hoping it will ring some bells. My great Aunt Emma Belchamber born 1871 in Plaistow,Sussex married William Edward Philps on the 11th 0f Sept.1897 in the parish church,Portsea Island. William Edward Philps the son of William George and Elizabeth Philps nee King, was born at 47 Maitland St.Portsea Island on the 28th of April,1869.William Edward and Emma Philps had two children Annie Florence Beatrice born in Portsea in the June qtr of 1898 and Frederick Samuel James born in Plaistow,Sussex in the Dec qtr of 1900.In the 1901 census the family were living in Newcastle upon tyne(As Philips) where William Edward was a Bombardier and Emma a Bombardier's wife. After that I lost track of them, until the 1911 census came out this week.In this census I have found them in Aldershot living in Stanhope Lines, the family are in the military census, but William Edward is now a Canteen Manager in the camp, working for Brooks Dickson and co.Ltd. On there marriage certificate William Edward is a Driller the same as his father,so maybe they worked in the dockyard.Witness,s were Emily Hill and Arthur Lush.Family legend says the William and Emma remained in Aldershot, where some of the older family members visited them. Is there anyone out can add to this, any descendants out there.
