    2. Nigel Penton Tilbury
    3. Greetings all! I thought it was time to raise my head above the parapet and invite all subscribers to email their specific name interests in order that we can refresh and invigorate in readiness for 2009. Could those who are interested please submit their emails in the form of a message for each surname sought, and make sure the Subject line contains just the surname in capitalised form? The body of the message could contain the places and periods of interest, followed by any other relevant details. The simple location & date précis avoids the need to wade through a long message unnecessarily. i.e. Subject : BAGGINS Message Body : Upper Clatford, Andover - C18 and before, or 1735-1845 Believed to be baptised Bilbo, but not sure. Had a father called Susan - there were family stories....... Cheers, Nigel - Listowner

    1. [ENG-HANTS] COLE
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers Nigel's suggestion to list our Surnames of Interest is a great idea - should help us to get more motivated for 2009 - maybe we'll find some answers, as well as new cousins!! One of my handful of Hampshire **Ancestral** Surnames (too complicated to look at the rest!) that I have next-to-nothing on is COLE. Mary COLE married Abraham HAYLES (more about him later) on 13 Feb 1644(5) in Newport, Isle of Wight. At at guess, Mary was born around 1625, presumably on the Isle of Wight, and maybe even in Newport. Any help on her line would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia

    3. Hello Listers Another ancestral surname that is very sparse on data is WICKHAM. Elizabeth WICKHAM married John LEE on 26 Jan 1614(5) in Fareham, Hampshire. At at guess, Elizabeth was born around 1595, possibly in Fareham. A burial that appears to be hers took place in Fareham on 18 Dec 1662. Any help on her line would be greatly appreciated. 3. Hello Listers Abraham HAYLES married Mary COLE in Newport, Isle of Wight, on 13 Feb 1644(5). At a guess he was born cir 1620. Abraham and Mary had two known children - Mary and Jane. Mary was baptised in Newport on 21 May 1646; Jane was baptised in the same parish on 22 May 1654. Mary married William LEE (my 7 x ggps) in Yarmouth on 2 Jun 1668. If anyone can help with this HAYLES line, I'd be most grateful. I'd love a baptism for Abraham, burials for all of the and maybe a marriage for Jane - and any other children. Many thanks. 1. [ENG-HANTS] LEE
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers Here's another line of my 'hard to find' Hampshire ancestors. John LEE married Elizabeth WICKHAM at Fareham on 26 Jan 1614(5). At a guess, John was born cir 1590. John & Elizabeth had 3 known children - John baptised at Fareham on 21 Jul 1617 William baptised at Fareham on 13 Feb 1619(20) (my ancestor) Robert baptised aty Fareham on 22 Aug 1624 I have no further information on John or Robert. William married an unknown wife about the early 1640s at a guess, and was buried at Fareham on 2 Nov 1665. They had one known child, William. William jnr married Mary HAYLES at Yarmouth on 2 Jun 1668. The family then lived in Fareham where 10 children were born from 1668 to 1685 - Abraham, Mary, William, Sarah, Elizabeth, Richard, John, Richard, Ann, Ann. I'm descended from Sarah who was baptised in Fareham on 10 Feb 1675(6). She married Richard ROBINS (my paternal line - more on them later) in Alverstoke on 14 Dec 1692. As Sarah ROBINS, she was buried in Alverstoke on 30 Nov 1736. Abraham, the eldest, was buried in Fareham on 13 Mar 1708. Two of the other - the first Richard and the first Ann - obviously died young. Apart from the above, I have no further info on the LEE family. Is there someone else out there who is connected to this family or has access to Fareham PRs please? Many thanks. 3. Hello Listers Eleanor MILLARD was baptised in Havant on 25 Apr 1688. She married Thomas ROBINS in Bedhampton, by Banns, on 25 Jun 1718. She was buried in Alverstoke on 16 Nov 1759. Eleanor's father was Thomas MILLARD; her mother Mary (surname unknown). At a guess Thomas MILLARD was born in the early 1660s and was buried in Havant on 29 Mar 1721. A Mary MILLARD was buried on 2 May 1728 and on 26 May 1734, both in Havant. I have no way of knowing which, if either, is Thomas's wife. I am very interested in this MILLARD family. Thomas and Mary are my 6 x ggps. Any assistance would be greatly apprciated. Many thanks. Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia

    1. [ENG-HANTS] TURLINGTON
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers Sarah TURLINGTON married John ROBINS in Portsmouth on 17 Jun 1748. So far my information on this surname in Hampshire is sadly lacking. Looking at the IGI as a guide, I found a Sarah T baptised (along with a handful of siblings) in Stepney in London on 18 Feb 1725(6). Apart from a couple, most are in either Gloucestershire or Leicestershire. London seems a long way off for Hampshire, but maybe they family moved around quite a bit. Two of the above Sarah's brothers had middle names - one being PENNY, the other FINCH - which could point to family maiden names. Any suggestions for tracking down this line would be most appreciated. Many thanks. Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia

    1. Re: [ENG-HANTS] ROLL CALL STAMP WILD
    2. Carolyn Perkes
    3. STAMP, Sarah b. ca 1808 Hampshire, probably Pamber. d. 1856 Ontario Canada. Her husband: WILD, Stephen b. 1802 (? date on stone on Riverside cemetery, North Cayuga township, Ontario Canada), but perhaps b. 1806. That Sarah STAMP was native to Hampshire seems fairly certain, but am still wondering where her husband Stephen WILD (in Canada, variously spelled WILD, WILDE, WILDS) was from. Stephen WILD and Sarah STAMP had four sons, William, Thomas, James and George, before emigrating to Ontario, Canada (at the time, Canada West) in the late 1830s or possibly early 1840s. So, am wondering about WILD in Hampshire. Carolyn Perkes Montréal Canada

    1. [ENG-HANTS] ROBINS
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers My paternal line is ROBINS. John ROBINS was apparently born in the early 1600s. By his first marriage, he had two known sons who appear in his Will but don't appear in his wife's Will, but which I deduce that she was a second wife and not their mother. My Hampshire ROBINSes as far as is known are - father to son down the list: John ROBINS (c1610-1672) - Mariner. First wife's name unknown - marriage possibly cir 1635. Thomas ROBINS (1638-1697) - Shipwright. Married 1658 to Ann - her surname doesn't appear to be listed. Would love to find it out. Richard ROBINS (1671-1705) - Mariner. Married Sarah LEE in 1692. Thomas ROBINS (1696-1735) - occupation unknown. Married Eleanor MILLARD in 1718. John ROBINS (1720-1784) - occupation unknown. Married Sarah TURLINGTON in 1748. Joseph ROBINS (1754-1793) - Coach Painter. Married FIELD Mary in Chichester in 1777. The family moves around a bit after Joseph. Does anyone have any of these ROBINSes or any of the wives' lines? Cheers Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
