STAMP is quite rare in Hampshire (some on the Isle of Wight) - it was found most often around Doncaster. There was a Stamp family living at Ovington for a time (Wessex-Plus-L Archives). WILD is a fairly common name in England and certainly appears in Hampshire (as Wield, Wild, Wilde, Wyld, or Wylde) - one site http://wildes.net/wilde/index.html has done a lot of research, collecting 50 families, but the greatest concentration and possible origin was in the Oldham/Stockport area in the N.W. The only Hampshire Stephen Wild on this site was born about 1770 in Basingstoke (about right for the father of your Stephen though no child Stephen recorded for him, his last was in 1802 so perhaps he had Stephen later). None of the other Wilds of about the right age to be Stephen's parents had a child Stephen, so it would appear he was from out of the county - the site I mentioned thinks many Hampshire Wildes came from Kent.
