Hi everyone, Place: southeast NEW FOREST. I am researching these families in this area and my queries are these: 1) can anyone push back the boundaries beyond HENRY PLASKET who married in Lower Exbury 1756? 2) can anyone connect Plascotts/Plasketts of this area with the Robert Plaskett born in Downton 1578 or Robard (sic, Huguenot?) Plasket buried in Titchfield 1591? 3) are there any remaining relatives of a family which seems to have decamped en masse to London in the 1900s? Many thanks, David
According to the IGI, Sarah Jane PARR, daughter of John and Sarah PARR was christened at Southampton on 13 October 1811. Family lore says John PARR was a copperplate printer. During the 1830s Sarah Jane married James COLEMAN one of 21 children, (19 sons and 2 daughters), all of whom grew to adulthood. All the sons were over 6 feet tall. Sarah Jane and James had three children: Emma Jane born 1833 at Cripplegate, Middlesex; Henry James born 1835 at St Botolph, Aldgate, Middlesex; and Maria Sarah born 1838 at St Anne, Limehouse. Sarah Jane was widowed, and married John STEPHENS, upholsterer, on 13 May 1844 at St George's Church, Camberwell, Surrey. Trying to find details of Sarah Jane's family. Her brother George Thomas PARR, a silver polisher, married Susanna PALMER. Any information or connections very gratefully received! Ruth in Hobart, Tasmania.
Can't help you with your genealogy but there was never a Fawley Ferry as far as I know - just the Hythe Ferry which ran between Southampton Town Quay and Hythe Pier. Hello Listers Another ancestral surname that is very sparse on data is WICKHAM. Elizabeth WICKHAM married John LEE on 26 Jan 1614(5) in Fareham, Hampshire. At at guess, Elizabeth was born around 1595, possibly in Fareham. A burial that appears to be hers took place in Fareham on 18 Dec 1662. Any help on her line would be greatly appreciated. I am researching the PROUDLEY family whose roots are, thus far, in Hampshire. I know my grandfather Arthur Duncan PROUDLEY was born in Chewton, Milton, Hampshire, England in 1888. He came to Canada in 1913. From this information I have followed my ancestors back through various parishes in Hampshire. PROUDLEY family members have been found in Christchurch, Portsea, Romsey, Bansgore, Neacroft, Southampton, Shirley and Highcliffe. My research has taken me to back to the marriage of William PROUDLEY to Sophia Littlefield on October 8, 1792 in St. Marys, Portsea, Hampshire. This marriage produced six (6) children - Sophia Wren, William, John Charles, Joseph Charles, George, and Sophia. Recently I have, through census records, located family in Sussex and possibly Dorset. I have located family in Australia and western Canada as well. Other names that occur through marriages in the first five generations are ABBOTT, BALLARD, BOND, BROWNEN, CATTON, COLE, DIMAGE, DUNCAN, HAWKINS, HARVEY, HENDY, HOLFORD, JONES, LONDON, OXFORD, POINTER, POWER, STEVESON, STRIDE, TODD, WHITECOMBE, and WILCOX. Hello Listers Nigel's suggestion to list our Surnames of Interest is a great idea - should help us to get more motivated for 2009 - maybe we'll find some answers, as well as new cousins!! One of my handful of Hampshire **Ancestral** Surnames (too complicated to look at the rest!) that I have next-to-nothing on is COLE. Mary COLE married Abraham HAYLES (more about him later) on 13 Feb 1644(5) in Newport, Isle of Wight. At at guess, Mary was born around 1625, presumably on the Isle of Wight, and maybe even in Newport. Any help on her line would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Pam Beaudesert, Queensland, Australia
Good morning list & a Happy New Doodah to you all. I've recently started *doing* my daughter's partner's family tree & I'm looking for the names KNIGHT & TRIBE. I have Joseph Tribe born abt. 1764 in East Meon & his family from his son, down to Margaret Amy Tribe, born 1887, also in East Meon. (Some census details found, but not all.) I've not been able to find Joseph's wife or any other children apart from his son Joseph born 1804. Margaret married Hori KNIGHT, born abt. 1890 in Greatham, to John Knight & Elizabeth Ann Pratt. John was born abt. 1850 in Rake - Sussex or Hampshire, depending on the census, or Rogate, Sussex. I have John & family on the 1881, 1891 & 1901. If any of you have any spare Knight's or Tribes, feel free to send them along & I'll see if they fit in with what I've got. Any help greatly appreciated !! :o) Thank you. Pat.xxx :o)) A Maid of Kent

yes indeed Sandy but the characters on windows do not include all the ASCII code charaters, and using them is far quicker than using Insert and Symbol etc I think we need to keep this off list in future as most of us now have got the gist of this. I've found everything I need there. (Living in Australia with dollars, I often need to insert the £ symbol.) Incidentally I use Thunderbird for mail (and Mailwasher to screen incoming mail) so I don't know if it works for everything. In Word Documents it depends on what fonts you have, how many different types of symbols you can get. Best wishes Sandy ............................................. Really mystified as to the whereabouts of this family: Henry Thomas TOOTH [1873-1915] m. *Margaret Mary QUINN [1877- ] Children of the marriage: *Alfred Henry J. [1901- ] *Alexandra Mildred M. Brothers William Patrick [1875], John Edward [1880], and Thomas James [1884], all born at Winchester. Parents, Patrick QUINN [1837-1898] and Mary Ann née HUGGINS [1839-1902]. The father, Patrick, was born in the county Clare, Ireland -- I have *no further information* on him. William Patrick and John Edward emigrated to British Columbia, Canada some time before 1901. Have traced their move to California, USA, etc. Last sighting of the youngest brother, Thomas James QUINN, was in the 1891 England census, when the family lived in St Bartholomew Hyde parish, in Winchester.
