    3. Hi Karenn, Many kind thanks for your help and reply to my query. It still amazes me the wonderful response that you can receive when putting "out there" a simple query. Karenn, the information that I have on Phillip Tibble is he is married to a Annie Hewitt and they have a child Esther born 17 Jun 1834, Micheldever. I have recently only just started on this line and cannot confirm who or where the Hewitt surname came from, as our family tree research has been a collection of research done by a few different relatives over the last couple of years. Esther Tibble marries Jacob Hobbs on the 4 Jun 1859 in Micheldever and they are my gggrandparents on my mothers side. Any help in confirming that your James is a brother to my Esther and if possible the details on Phillip and Ann would be gladly appreciated, as all I have on them is just their names as a parent to Esther. Again many thanks. 2. Sandra J Smith
    3. Hi Pamela I have quite a lot on the Groves of the IOW, as I am descended from Antony Groves on the island. I am not sure whether you have the parents for Henry Groves correct. Henry Groves, the father of Richard, was aged 42 in the 1891 census, born Cowes. The only Henry who turns up in the 1861 census is the one living in Whippingham, living with his mother and stepfather (Jeremiah Jacobs and Mary A his wife). He is 12 years old and born in Cowes. If you dont have copies of the census entries I mention let me know and I'll send them off-list. 3. Word of warning to all, I have previously found areas missing in the HFH's indexes, ie Arnwood in the New Forest. Also if you look at HFHS web site there are a number of version 2 books now available. I know from using the indexes in Hants RO that they are not the most up to date versions. So the indexes are not definitive, be warned. 3. Dear Dot, The Gurd and Jurd families peacefully coexist at present in Botley, Eastleigh, Shirley, and Southampton (and separately in innumerable other Hampshire places, too). Jurd first appeared in Suffolk in 1275, as Jorde in Norfolk 1210, Jurde in Huntingdonshire 1209 and Worcestershire 1275. Said to be a pet form of Jordan, which became popular under the Normans (from at least 1200) whose Crusaders brought home flasks of Jordan water to be used at baptisms. The best place to get Censuses on CD is Archive CD at www.archivecdbooks.org/ (there are other sources but they're nowhere near as good quality) - however I think the nearest at present for Hampshire is the 1841 or 1861, which I have. Check Rod Neep's site for plans to issue 1851 - I wouldn't bother buying it from elsewhere. Regards, David

    3. Hello Carol Yes, it is quite possible that your Thomas Knight could have been enumerated twice on the census, at his place of work and his living address. I have two ancestors similarly enumerated in the 1881 census. 2. Mark
    3. Hi List, Could SKS with access to the 1841/1851 census records for the Micheldever region of Hampshire look for a family called TIBBLE. The family would have looked like this; Phillip TIBBLE and his wife Annie, with a child of the name of Esther born in 1834. Any help is kindly appreciated. Regards Mark

William gives his father as Robert YELF Cabinet maker and I am wondering if any information is available about this Robert YELF who was born in 1772 in Newport and married Sophia CARD in Newport 1802. He was the son of James YELF and Ann MIDLANE. I know we have Robert YELFof the Yelf hotel and Robert YELF printer and Robert YELF the schoolmaster who also married a Sophia all of whom have been well documented on the IOW but where was this Robert in business or was he a man of several trades as was his son William???
