    2. Dear Richard I do believe Landford was once in Hampshire. When my parents moved there in the '60's the border was much further down than it is today. Best Sarah

I am still looking for the following information: 1-SAPH, James c 1801 need record of the birth/ parents (not in Stapleford) , he is supposed to have been born in Jersey, but there is no record of him there. 3. Thanks again All, the help is always appreciated. >>Nothing found about the gates even on our history of the village and >>surrounding area at http://southernlife.org.uk/titchfie.htm Chris And an excellent site it is too Chris... I have found a "House" which actually looks like the one I am searching for, in the 1851 for in Landford, Wiltshire. There is an Alexander GRIERSON, Bart. et al living there. Also in the parish are a number of KING Family groups, with (Lo and Behold!) a Harriet KING aged 2, who it transpires is the same in all respects (except where born) to the child (niece) living with William & Elizabeth in "HHH" in 1861. Being so close to the 'border', could it have been in Hampshire at that time perhaps? It is approximately 11 miles from Southampton. Thanks all, Richard -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Dear Chris & Caroline, I'm not aware of a Holly Hill Woods near Havant, but then I don't know that area at all - there is a Hollybank just over the border in Emsworth, though. No, the Holly Hill Woodland Park is between Warsash and Sarisbury and was within Titchfield Parish - other correspondents have mentioned that the Mansion there has been refurbished after a fire. Regarding Richard's other query, 'Common Gates' - there were 'Pound Gates' (i.e., those that coralled stray animals) for Titchfield Common and these are commemorated in Pound Gate Drive to the southwest of the Common. 2. Colyn Blundell
    3. I am aware that it is "not the done thing" to advertise on this list but I hope I will be forgiven. A friend has come into a number of old Ordnance Survey maps which may be of use to researchers. They are mainly Seventh Series (1959/60) and there are several each of 167 (Salisbury), 168 (Winchester), 179 (Bournemouth) and 180 (Southampton). These maps have much more information pertinent to genealogists than the more recent issues. They are for sale at £3.00 each plus £0.50 for postage. On a "first come, first served" basis, if anyone wants a map please contact me with your name and postal address and I will pass request to the vendor. Colyn.

They were farm labourers. I have searched Free BMD and cannot find births but did locate marriage of George and Mary in Southampton. If someone has access to Ancestry 1901 census would appreciate look-up for family. Thanks, Rose
