Hullo List, I am trying to trace a forebear by the surname Morgan who was sais to be the Chief Engineer for the British Navy possibly late 1800's - early 1900's. I have located a John T. Morgan who was the Chief Engineer on the corvette Tenedos in 1884. I do not know if he is the person I am looking for. However, if anyone has access to the Naval Who's Who 1917 and could look up the name Morgan with this info in mind, I would be very grateful. Helen, Adelaide, Sth australia.
Hi Judy Tell us a little more of what you know and what you are hoping to discover and I'm sure you'll get some help. The 1901 census is on line so you could search it yourself. Also the 1881 which gives households which help to link your people. Hi Listers Can anyone tell me how I can find out whether ancestors emigrated. I have the odd family that just disappears from the census records. Some have proved to be transcription errors, but others seem to have gone forever and I'd like to find out if they emigrated somewhere. What is the best way of doing this, given that I don't know where they went, what ship they went on - and that I live in NZ?? Many thanks for any help Lindsay Eaton
Hello again. I am interested in the following family that appears in the 1901 census:- Alfred T Grayell abt 1899 Portsea, Hampshire, England Son Alverstoke Hampshire Elizabeth Grayell abt 1900 Gosport, Hampshire, England Daughter Alverstoke Hampshire Francis G Grayell abt 1896 Portsea, Hampshire, England Son Alverstoke Hampshire Frank Grayell abt 1872 Warmley, Gloucestershire, England Head Alverstoke Hampshire Mary R Grayell abt 1897 Portsea, Hampshire, England Daughter Alverstoke Hampshire Rosa Grayell abt 1875 Portsea, Hampshire, England Wife Alverstoke Hampshire I presume that the following from the 1891 census is the same person:- Grayell, Frank abt 1871 Cambran, Monmouthshire, Wales Walmer Kent Beside an Elizabeth in 1881 these are the only GRAYELLs in either census. I cannot find him in the 1881 census and wondered if anyone on the list has any connection to the family and could/would help me. I believe that Frank was in the services which may be why the birth detail varies. The reason for my interest is that my gggm Josephine GRAYLE (GRAYELL) gave birth in Malmesbury to a Francis George "JONES" in 1871 but there is no marriage or birth in FreeBMD. She died in 1884 when FG was 13. Now Warmley is not to be found in Rootsweb, Gloucester county places. Malmesbury is in both Wilts and Gloucs. Josephine's daughter Mary Ann SKINNER (nee GRAYLE/GRAYELL) was living in Cwmbran in the 70's. I think there are too many coincidences, any help please. Mike in a warm but wintry Whakatane NZ

I dont think he was a child, as there is a fair run of children to the same parents at the usual 18-24 month intervals But it was worth considering that there are people of that name in that part of the country. Hi Sandra It would be good if it were him, but I think that the age difference is rather large if Richard was indeed 83 when he died in 1814 as he would have been born in 1731. I have just found my Thomas MARTIN born 1843 in Lambourn, Berkshire in 1861. His family moved to Cliddesden, Hampshire around late 1840's, and in 1861 Thomas is shown at Winchester Street, Basingstoke, age 17, unmarried, apprenctice baker. I've never been able to trace him further - infact when I couldn't originally find him with his parents in 1861 I thought perhaps he had died. The closest I could find for him in 1881 was Thomas born in Wantage, age 38, living in Surrey with wife Mary Ann 37, born Kingston and children Thomas, William Robert, Florence, Albert and Amy. Can anyone find him in 1871 or 1891? I realise it's a very common name, but I'd appreciate any help. Thank you, Linda.
Hi I'm new to this list. I have been researching my ancestors in Sussex and have hit a brick wall. I'm trying to find out where Richard Blundell came from. He married in Stedham in 1769 to Ann Howick (it said Hoick on the parish registry, but I don't think the rector could spell or write very well) . Ann was from Stedham parish and Richard from Selham, both in Sussex. They raised their family in Selham and the surname became Blunden. When they died , Richard in 1814 aged 83 and Ann in 1817 aged 73 they were buried in Selham. But it stated in the registry that they came from South Ambersham. Now Ambersham was part of Hampshire until 1844 and I was wondering if maybe Richard was a Hampshire Blundell. Can anyone throw any light on this and perhaps give me a few directions where to search. Many thanks Jan
