Thanks, I have got a birth certificate and I have a marriage certificate for parents listed on birth certificate. While this matches it still dose not prove I have the right birth certificate for ggf as I have no other record of mothers name nor do I know what day and month ggf birthday was. (no family members left to ask) I could be collecting information on the wrong family. Already built up a hugh resourse on what I believed to be brother of another family member only to discover wrong person (same name, same age, same occupation, same town) Regards, Rose ----- Original Message ----- From: "Sandra J Smith" <sandra.s@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Saturday, August 13, 2005 6:50 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-HANTS] Where else to locate Mother > Hi Rose, > You need to purchase your ggrandfather's birth certificate. How do I prove who mother is ? I started out with ggrandfather's death certificate that stated father - William, mother - Unknown. Then purchased ggf marriage certificate - father - George. Searching census found possible family with George as father, then found marriage of a George that fitted family on census. Purchased birth certificate that fits time frame for ggf with George as father. Where else can I go to find if mother in this family with George is mother of ggf. Thanks, Rose
Hi Rose, Sorry, I misinterpreted your posting! You haven't given any dates in your message, so I am guessing end of 19th century. The chances of finding another source for the mother's maiden name is quite remote, as this wasn't the sort of information that was asked of people at that time. Did your ancestor serve in the army? If so, and if his records have survived, there is a remote possibility that his mother might be named as Next of Kin in his attestation papers, although this will not give her maiden name. Did his father serve in the army? Again, there is a possibility that the name of the wife and any children are listed - even sometimes a marriage date and place AND the maiden name. Children, when they occur, are often listed with either their age or date of birth. Hi Rose, You need to purchase your ggrandfather's birth certificate. This will state the name and maiden name of the mother, besides the father. You can then verify that you have the correct marriage by ensuring that the names on the marriage certificate are identical. Are there Withers/Weathers/Wythers on the list who might have had ancestors who emigrated to the States in the 1600s or early 1700s? I have proven to 1719 in Virginia, Surry/Sussex Counties, USA, a Thomas Weathers/Withers (d. 1744). If interested, contact me privately, please. Best regards, Sarah Withers Keesee lydiap@salisbury.net [Salisbury, North Carolina, USA]
I just want to make a comment on how much I enjoyed hering Tony Knight on BBC radio Solent this morning. an excellent slot on genealogy! I'm not too sure what you meant about genealogy being addictive and becoming obsessive over it though Tony? very big grin! regards to all, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Good Morning All Hope I am in the right place. Can anyone tell me where I can find any information on a George CHESLETT who was discharged from the "HMS Berwick to Haslar Hospital on 20 March 1782". I am trying to find out if he was married, did he have children and when he died. If anyone has any information on where I can find this I would appreciate it Thank you Lynne South Australia
I wonder if anyone has access to the 1851 census of Hampshire. I am searching for James BUBB who was born in Exbury HAM. He married my Elvira HAWKINS in June 1871. I think his mother was named Ann but am not sure about his father until I can get the marriage certificate from Southampton. My Elvira HAWKINS was born 4th June 1838. So presumably they were born within a few years of each other - But I know what assuming does! I have James in 1881 and 1891 but have very little information on this BUBB family. Thank you in anticipation. Angie Greenhalgh searching for HAWKINS (Titichfield)- HILLIER(Martyr Worthy) - BUBB (Exbury) COLLINS (Portsmouth)
Hi everyone, The posting from tony and Linda about Miss Corn and Mr cob reminded me of a couple of guide dogs I had heard of, and how everyone who knew of them said the guide Dog Association purposely matched them up with specific people! The two that spring to mind are: Mark Perry, who was given a guide dog named Spencer. (Mark & Spencer?) and a dog named Happy was placed with a gent with the surname of Christmas! Not long after I had my 3rd guide dog Eddy, I heard of a dog called Trixey, and wished that I'd had her! Well Trixey Nixey doesn't sound bad does it! lol Regards to all, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Again, thank you to everyone who helped me find addresses for HARRIES families in the Portsmouth area. I will be writing letters to them all today, and then unsubscribing from the list for 2 weeks. I will be packing my clothes (and the kids' clothes) to go on vacation to Williamsburg, Virginia, and nearby Yorktown and Jamestown -- historic sites of the American Revolutionary War. Putting tacks in our tea was not a very funny practical joke at all. However, I will say a kind word about you all while I'm there!! Hope to return and find some mail from a HARRIES. Thanks again, - Kathy Tate Anderson
Thanks to all who responded with either names or info on how to get names for my possible HARRIES connections in the U.K. You've all been very kind. - Kathy Tate Anderson
