    1. WATKINS AND FORD SURNAME
    2. Terri Foley
    3. Hello I have subscribed to this list in an endeavour to help out a friend who would like any information on the following ancestors Thomas Watkins married Ruth Ford 2 Aug 1828 in Warblington Hampshire They had at least one son Charles Ford Watkins born 1 Dec 1829 Alverstoke. He emigrated to New Zealand - date unknown and married in NZ in 1864 to Sarah Savage so he may still have been in UK at the 1861 census. If anyone has access to the 1841 or 1851 census and they could look this family up would be excellent. Any suggestions where we might go for more information would be greatly appreciated. many thanks Terri and Bev NZ

Hi All I'm tracing my great grand father Arthur LEE, His death notice in Cape Town South Africa says he was from Portsmouth, his marriage certificate (South African) says that he was a bachelor and born 1883/4, however several people say that he was previously married to a Kathleen. I understand that he did come to Cape Town in 1919 and that he came with a Kathleen E LEE. I don't know if she was family as she seems to have disappeared. Can anyone please help, thanks Hugo Lee

    1. Robert Chandler 1782 - 1834 Blacksmith of Millbrook/Redbridge and Innkeeper of The Bugle, Botley
    2. Dick Chandler
    3. I wonder if anyone on this list can help me to overcome a long-standing brick wall in tracing my great great great grandfather Robert Chandler. He was buried at South Stoneham in 1834 aged 52 so must have been born about 1782, though I do not know where. The first record of him is his marriage to Elizabeth Dunning at Romsey in 1810, when he is described as "of Milbrook [sic]". He is a Blacksmith of Redbridge in 1813 and 1821 when two of his children were christened at Millbrook, and Innkeeper of The Bugle when another child was christened at Botley in 1823. His Widow Elizabeth continued to run The Bugle after his death. Despite many hours of searching online records, I can find no evidence of Robert's christening or origins. I am wondering if anyone on this list has any information which might give me a clue. Best wishes Dick Chandler in Salmon Arm, British Columbia, Canada -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 1. Re: [ENG-HANTS] West End Parish Records
    2. Alan McGowan
    3. Nigel, Are you talking about West End near Southampton? If so, the parish registers date from 1840. Earlier entries would have been entered in the registers of South Stoneham. Indexed transcripts of the South Stoneham registers 1659-1837 are held by Southampton City Archives, Hampshire Record Office, Hampshire Genealogical Society, and the Society of Genealogists. 1. Re: Hampshire Gazetteer in book format
    2. Hi again List - I am so sorry I didn't write sooner to thank all who answered my question about the gazetteer. I've been having serious computer problems on and off probably since the day I posted. Hopefully these have been solved now, but just to be safe, a new computer will be on the way soon. Also the holes in my Hants. research were much worse than I thought. In fact, everything is wrong, so it's back to square one. The thing is, I know better! I will be posting all the folks soon who I thought were mine and turned out not to be. The English sure moved around a lot, didn't they?! It must have been hell doing English research pre-computer. Thanks again for all the help, and I will be sure to take all your advice when I get more sorted out. Have a great weekend, Eve Jankowicz USA ----- I am wondering if there is a Hampshire gazetteer in book format or one that specifically covers southern Hampshire for purchase. I realize that there are excellent gazetteers online and also maps, and these have helped me a great deal so far, but I need the big picture showing all of Hants. or specifically the South. I'd appreciate any recommendations.
