Hello pat I received 3 remails from you...on two of them you had Thomas born 1814, in the 3rd email you had born 1816. I'll assume 1814 is correct and have his wife as harriet Weston. Hi Dave, Don't worry, we all have those suspicions in our families... Hi, Many thanks to Pan, Dave and Alan, for their suggestions re the death of my John GARDINER. I've just received a copy of the 1851 census of Fareham, and his wife is shown as a widow, so obviously he died prior to 30th March that year. However, the census lists a unnamed child age 'less than one month' and John's widow's relationship to it as 'grandson'. In later census that child, one Charles F. GARDINER, is listed as her son. But...there were two other daughters, who at the time of the 1851 census, who were over 20 years of age and unmarried. Now I'm getting suspicious! But that it not the reason for this message. The other families are listed as living on West Street, but the GARDINERs are listed as living at 'Blachbrook Railway Station''. I know the father was described in one document as a 'Railway Agent', and the 19 year old son in the census is listed as a 'Clerk to Railway Compy'. My questions are: 1. Was the London & South Western Railway Station on West Street? 2. Is there an 1850 Directory of Fareham available, and is it likely to list the Station Master? I believe John GARDINER may well have had that job before he died. The other families listed on the two pages I have are: Joseph SCOTT, 64, b Basingstoke, and dau Margaret, 35 b Fareham. I have an 1871 entry for a man on the crew of the "Duke of Wellington" and a note on the front page of the crew list says "Duke of Wellington, including her Tenders, the Victory, Black Eagle, Firequeen, and Sprightly". Although this won't help Pat this time, to be strictly correct, death certificates after 1953 DO include date and place of birth (looking at a 1983 one now) Take care Linda & Tony -----Original Message----- From: Dave Jacobs [mailto:dave@jacobs.net] Sent: 27 September 2005 23:16 To: ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-HANTS] Re: Samuel CORNEY At 22:00 27/09/2005, you wrote: >Eunice > >Thank you so much for taking time to check. > >Will have to find a way to purchase the certif and hope it shows place of >birth to confirm. == An English Death Certificate does not have this information, so the 7 pounds it will cost may not give you very good value for your money. Hi Ann and Terry Do you have anything on William Harris who was a blacksmith in the village of Hursley in the first quarter of the nineteenth century? His wife was Sarah and I have a record of three children. I have to admit that I have not been watching this thread and have just picked up on Derek's message. Let me know; regards John ----- Original Message ----- From: "Ann & Terry Spiro" <explorer@smartchat.net.au> To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 4:19 AM Subject: Re: [ENG-HANTS] blacksmiths > Hi Derek > > He certainly is of interest,I'll put him on the Hampshire list today. > > Cheers > > Ann > ******************************************************************************** > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "derek lambert" <dereks@rokerman.ndo.co.uk> > To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> > Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 1:24 AM > Subject: [ENG-HANTS] blacksmiths > > >> Hello Ann & Terry, >> re: your blacksmith list, I have a Richard LAMBERT, born Beacon Hill >> Marchwood, July 7 1824, In 1851 he was a working blacksmith in Marchwood >> Parish, and by 1861 had risen to be a Smith & Horseshoe maker >> in Chichester Square, St Marys Southampton. >> Hope this is of interest, >> regards, Derek. >> >> >> ============================== >> Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. Hi, I am looking for the family of Thomas Edgell or Edgeller md: 8 Mar 1808 to Mary Dawes in Binsted, Hamp. I think the parish records were in Alton. Could anyone inform me of which churches I could look in to find this marriage date and possible children? Thank you in advance. Gwen
Eunice Thank you so much for taking time to check. Will have to find a way to purchase the certif and hope it shows place of birth to confirm. Thanks to all who were so kind as to look up 1901 and the freeBMD for me. Really appreciate it. Thanks for taking the time. When I can afford, I will have to order the Samuel Corney d. Sep 1899 Tadcaster and hope something on it will indicate where he came from. In 1891 he was out of the RE and just a Carpenter and Joiner. So maybe he went to Tadcaster for a job? The Corney men born IOW did not live long lives. Father died 60, H W abt 62-65, Samuel C 48 and the long lived one Lawrence Joshua at 67. Many thanks for your help. There is also a John Arstall from Catishead Lancashire http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON/2004-01/1074301420 and another reference to him and his wife Elizabeth who had three daughters Harriet b.1858 Margaret b. about 1863 Mary Ann b. about 1867 at http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/read/ENG-LAN-WARRINGTON/2004-01/1074301420 The chap posting the message is after anyone with ARSTALL in the Cheshire area to contact him, so it may be worth an email to eliminate these. There is another page (the URL I have now lost!!) which gives the....... Common misspellings and typos for the surname Arstall Arsatll, Asrtall, Arstaall, Arstalll, Artall, Arrstall, Arstal, AArstall, Arstll, Astall, rstall, Arstlal, Artsall, rAstall, Arsall, Arsttall, Arsstall. And loads of other ARSTALLs at http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/ancestorsearchresults.asp?last_name=Arstall&standardize=N Again mostly Lancashire Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Jacobs" <dave@jacobs.net> To: <ENG-HAMPSHIRE-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, September 27, 2005 3:02 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-HANTS] Fw: Royal Marine Infimary > Hi Jean > > I just looked at the 1861 image, and it is the list of sailors etc based > at the shore station of HMS Victory, Portsmouth Dockyard.
