    1. Re: [ENG-HANTS] Names of interest
    2. Hello Fay I am also reasearching the name VOKES, this is my mothers maiden name. Mine are from around the Farham, Kingsworthy areas in Hampshire. I do not have details to hand as I am at work. I am busy getting ready to go over to Ireland for a short break this week so may not have time to look up details until I come back, but will get back in touch then. If you wish to send me details in the meantime I will check against my info, but VOKES is not a common name and I believe they will all be connected in some way. 3. I had to have a big chuckle over this as my Mother in Laws Norwegian family are just like the first law. After much money and even more searching in the USA when I finally did find where they crossed into Canada all the children that were still living said collectively, "I could have told you that". 1. [ENG-HANTS] FLORENCE Lee nee ???? Christchurch
    2. Hi Other listers may have found things, but I wonder whether the maiden name could be Collison? Although I realise this is not complete, I went to FreeBMD and fouind the following - Marriages March 1899 Islington 1b 226 Batten Herbert George Collison Florence Elizabeth Lee John Robert Ward Blanche Gertrude I then went to the 1891 census and found that a Florence E Collison (aged 18) was living with with John Vincent and Mary A Vincent at 45 Eleanor Road Woolwich. Florence and her siblings are shown as sons and daughters of the family, so it is likely that this was the 2nd marriage for Mary Vincent. The birthplace of Florence is shown as Christchurch, Hampshire. Her occupation is difficult to read, although it looks like B**maker. Bethnal Green, where the Lee family is found in 1901 is less than 10 miles from Woolwich. I moved back to 1881 and found that the assumed mother (Mary A) was living at 8 Military Way, St Mary Northgate, Canterbury, with her 1st husband, George Collison and children Augusta, Lilian & Edith (all of whom appear in the 1891 census) but Florence is missing on census night. George is in the RH Artillery and, being an army family, the children were all born in different places - includuing Malta for Augusta. Mary Ann Collison married John Vincent in Woolwich in 1889. It is, perhaps, a long shot, but worth looking into? Rosemary

    3. I am looking for the maiden name and parents, etc please, of Florence, wife of John Robert Lee who appears on the 1901 census for Bethnal Green(London) , living at 6 Fountain Street. I believe her birthplace was Christchurch and the year probably 1872 or 73 . John was born at Windlesham Surrey to James Lee and his wife Helen, one of the Hendeys of Boldre, so it is a possibility she knew Florence's family and that is how they met. If anyone can provide marriage data, or census information for 1881,1891 also it would be appreciated, too. Thanks, Judy

Am self taught and only learn from the "Lists". Appreciate your time Lynne SA Hi Lynne, As you have not mentioned searching the parish baptism register, am I right in assuming that you have yet to do this? 3. Have hit a brick wall with my ancestor Edward Dalby DAY, born c1826, Selbourne Hampshire (as per 1859 marriage Cert) Parents were Edward Day, Gamekeeper, and Elizabeth DEAN Edward Dalby Day immigrated in c1857 I can't find him or his parents on the IGI and the 1841 & 1851 census offer a few possibilities but are all wide of the mark. I thought DALBY may have been a clue but can't link it as yet. I did find an Edward DAY and David DALBY in the 1841 census in the 35th Regt but YOB out by 5 years and as there were others there aged 15 not sure if it was necessary to put his age up. Any clues would be appreciated as I have been stuck on this for over a year. TIA Lynne SA

    2. Sandra J Smith
    3. Hi Lynne, Oh dear, no! What is on Ancestry in that category is a very, very small fraction of the parish registers in Hampshire. There are over 300 parishes in the county and the majority of completed registers are deposited at the Hampshire Record Office in Winchester, or the smaller record offices at Southampton and Portsmouth for their area of interest with copies at Winchester. It is possible to purchase microfiche copies of parish registers from the HRO. However, I have a transcript of the Selborne parish registers and there are no DAY entries at all, neither marriages, nor baptisms. Now you really have hit a brick wall! 3. Hi Lynne, As you have not mentioned searching the parish baptism register, am I right in assuming that you have yet to do this? Brickwall isnt complete until every known source of information has been searched!! 3. Jo I have an Epson Perfection 1250 (which has now been superseded) this has a photo scanner and comes with two templates one for 35mm transparencies in holders and one for transparencies or negatives without holders. I had some old 620, 127, and 120 negatives and did not have a template to hold them in so made my own out of a piece of cardboard. And it works perfectly! I bought this two years ago and it was L99 at Jessops, PC World would not get one off the shelf for me and expected me to climb up and get it along with a 19" monitor, even though I said I was disabled so told them where to poke it and went over the road to Jessops who not only put both in the car for me knocked L25 off the monitor because I went to them instead of PC World!! Epson I really recommend especially for printers as they more or less invented the printer for the computer!! http://www.epson.co.uk/products/scanners/Perfectionv100Photo.htm Price around L66 at Jessops This one can scan transparencies and negatives Chris ----- Original Message ----- From: "Jo" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 09, 2007 4:24 PM Subject: [ENG-HANTS] OT (with apologies) - scanner recommendation requested Mods: I know that this probably counts as completely OT but it is related to my family history project so I hope you will let it pass! I have some standard 35mm trannies and negs, plus some larger trannies and negs, which I need to scan for posterity and for eventual inclusion on my web site. Can anybody recommend a good scanner which can handle non-standard sizes? I’m prepared to throw a bit of dosh at this as I know that the ones you find in the likes of John Lewis and Comet probably won’t do what I need to do. Rather than clog everyone’s inboxes, it might be best to reply to me (HYPERLINK "mailto:[email protected]"[email protected]) rather than the list. I’m in the UK so UK-based stores or web sites would be best. Many thanks for your time.
