Hi Judy - it.s me again. Are you talking about William bpt 1748 who married Anne Bucket? If so he was buried Boldre 28/10/1824. -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] To: [email protected] Sent: Tue, 1 May 2007 6.38AM Subject: [ENG-HANTS] Do Lymington Parish Records Exist? I have been unable to find much information online so far to help me search for my Lymington Hendy/ Hendey relatives who were originally from East End hamlet in Boldre parish, but by the mid 1800s were in Lymington. Are the parish records available on CD, or online that I could access from my iMac? Can anyone help by directing me to sources that have to be online as I am in the US. I am guessing they were still part of the parish church and not one of the dissenting chapels. Have he records been lost or is there still hope I shall be able to tap into them? Also can someone please confirm the dates on the actual tombstones for William and Anne Hendy (Hendey) and advise me where relatives can look to find them in the churchyard in Boldre, I presume.? Hi Judy, I am not sure whether my information can be updated, but I do know that Lymington was one of the parishes who decided to invest in the appropriate equipment to control temperature and humidity and keep their registers at the church instead of depositing them at the Record Office at Winchester. However, the RO may have exercised their right to make a copy of the registers and they may be able to sell you copies of the microfiche. You need to contact them directly. Meanwhile, I have a transcript of Lymington marriages 1662-1837 and there is only one HENDY entry: 27 Dec 1720 John PILCHARD and Ann HENDY Regards Sandra Judy d'Albert wrote: >I have been unable to find much information online so far to help me >search for my Lymington Hendy/ Hendey relatives who were originally >from East End hamlet in Boldre parish, but by the mid 1800s were in >Lymington. Sandra, this is very helpful confirmation. As an afterthought, do you know how I can contact Lymington directly since my earlier query to the administrator there at the church has only brought a reply that it was sent to the archivist volunteer. Maybe I just need to pick up the phone - international call notwithstanding! Thanks Jennifer, Charani and Jean, Between you, you have given me some confirmations as, in this list from Jennifer I see familiar names including the specific William d 1824. Now, I just need to find out if there is a map of the cemetery to show locations, if one has to get permission to search personally in the cemetery and if indeed there were headstones for any of these Hendys. As for the Lymington later nineteenth century Hendeys, I shall try to get to the local FHC in Laguna Niguel now I know they may have them since my contact directly to the church several months ago has not brought a reply from the volunteer archivist who I understand is swamped with requests. Yes, Jean, the project for the wedding present has taken on a life of it's own, helped much by you, Kathryn Jennifer, Tony et al. and cousins now are intrigued and want copies of what I eventually write up! All I need is TIME! It is interesting to see the widow Frances as I guess she married a Hendy from Milton and he moved to Boldre, thus starting our ancestors' connection to the village. Anyone know her maiden name? My system cannot use those small CDs unfortunately. However, you do have various options. www.familysearch.org will tell you where your nearest Family History Centre (FHC) is and you'll be able to hire the film through them for a nominal sum. www.familyhistoryonline.net has a collection of parish register transcriptions. It's a PAYG site with entries starting from 5p (well under $1) and coverage does vary from county to county but searching is free. You will need to register though but that's free as well. The Hampshire Record Office offers a research service (around £20/$40 per hour) and they should also have a list of independent researchers as well. (www.hants.gov.uk/record-office/) You could check to see if there's an Online Parish Clerk (OPC) for the area. You could also check to see if Hampshire Family History Society has made any CDs for purchase or offer a look up service as some do. Google should find the URL for them. It's not one I have in my folder. > Also can someone please confirm the dates on the actual tombstones for > William and Anne Hendy (Hendey) and advise me where relatives can look > to find them in the churchyard in Boldre, I presume.? Are you sure there were headstones? Not all graves had them, esp if the family was not in a position to be able to afford one. They'd be buried nearest to where they died unless they specified where they wanted to be buried (eg in a neighbouring parish) so it might be worthwhile seeing if you can find a will to see if they did make such a request. -- Charani (UK)
Hi all, I am new to this mailing list. I would like to know if there are parish registers kept for Ripley? and if not where baptism, marriages would most likely have occurred for someone living in Ripley in 1808, and how I could access information from these (search services etc). My GGG Grandfather Charles BRENTON maintained throughout the census from 1851 through to 1891 that he was born in Ripley, Hampshire. The surname has been variously spelt BRENTON / BRINTON / BUNTON in the census. Charles married Hannah ??????? at some stage and in 1841 they were living in Sopley, Christchurch, Hampshire, by 1851 they had moved to Canford, Parkstone St Peter, Dorset. From there they seemed to remain in the general vicinity of Parkstone in Dorset. Hannah maintained that she was born at Mortown, Dorset. Their children state on census returns that they were born in the following locations; 1. Ann born about 1834 in Hampreston, Dorset, England 2. Henry born about 1836 in Hampreston, Dorset, England 3. Charles born about 1839 in Winfrith, Dorset, England 4. William born about 1841 in Avon, Hampshire, England 5. Hannah born about 1844 in Avon, Hampshire, England 6. Elizabeth born about 1850 in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, England 7. Charlotte born about 1853 in Parkstone, Poole, Dorset, England (my gg grandmother who later married George FOOT) I only recently discovered this family because of the variations that were used with the surname spelling. So any help that can be provided would be welcome. Cheers Leila from a very hot, dry sunny Queensland

Hi Listers Searching for any info on PERCY EVERETT, l believe that he was born around 1900-1904. l'm not sure where he was born, but he spent most of his adult life around Winchester. l know he married LAURA WILKINS in 1922. Any help would be appreciated. Ann-Leeds
Ripley is a hamlet within the parish of Sopley. The first place to look is in the Sopley parish registers. However, there was also an Independent Chapel at Ripley. TNA holds the following registers for this chapel under references RG 4/656 and RG 4/657: - Births of Baptists1818-1837 - Baptisms 1829-1837 - Burials 1829-1837 These registers have been filmed by the LDS. ----- Original Message ----- From: "John and Leila Muller" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, April 30, 2007 11:39 PM Subject: [ENG-HANTS] Ripley Parish Registers - BRENTON. Had a photo sent me today that may interest most of you, that shows that Genealogy could have been active in the 50s and 60s Take a look at the last photo of the paper bag on the page at http://www.southernlife.org.uk/ryde.htm Especially the last line under the commercial!! Chris
A pleasure Patsy Sadly the churchyard is overgrown again but you can still walk through okay. The Telephone sign I photographed is right opposite the church just above what must be one of the UKs last red telephone kiosks!
