Thanks for the reply. Of course she won't be on the Hants Burial CD - what was I thinking ? I have since checked on the Hants RO CALM database but no luck. Is there an online source for Hants papers ? By the way, it's the first time I've never seen a widow's husband mentioned on a death cert. Just when you need it !! I have a death cert for Jane COTT d 11 Oct 1846 at Lymington but reg 12 Feb 1847 after an inquest. It says "widow" but unfortunately not who she was a widow of. I suspect she may be Jane CAWTE, widow of John. I can't find her on the Hants burial CD but wonder if anyone has any access to any parish records which may record her burial or even if she received assistance from the parish (which could be Milton). Any help appreciated. Francis Auckland, NZ

Francis, The hants burial CD is predominantly pre-1837 so you shouldn't expect to find the burial info there. Inquest records generally haven't survived, but there is almost certainly a report of the inquest in the local papers. Dear listers, If there are any entries for SYRED I would be most grateful for the details. I have the BMB records for the West Sussex parishes of: Aldingbourne, Barnham, Eastergate, Harting, Oving, Slindon & Westhampnett& am willing to do look ups in these parishes, (over the border)! Gill Shaw Barnham
To all those who sent best wishes, I have added you all to the card, please take this as a thank you as there are too many to thank individually I will give it another day or two before sending to give those who have not opened their emails a chance. Chris .
Most of you know that Moya Page is seriously ill in Hospital so I am sending a card to wish her well from myself and those on the lists that know her. I know a few of you have sent messages but if you wish to put a personal message on the card let me have them as soon as possible. Don't make them too long as since using the computer my handwriting has got worse!! LOL Chris .

Her sister De De and her husband Tony, went to see her today, and said they got back from Lincoln last night. Moya not too good, but a lot brighter yesterday than when they arrived on Friday. They are doing a CT scan and other tests so will have to wait for the results. My best wishes go out to Moya and her family, and here's hoping that she has a speedy recovery. Moya has helped me immensely over the years with bits and bobs to do with our respective families, and family history queries in general - it will be very quiet without her... Hi Chris So sorry to hear about Moya. I have checked the member list for the ENG-HAM-SOUTH-STONEHAM List and she doesn't appear to be on it. Hi list, First apologies if you receive this email several times. I am posting it to several lists as I am sure people will find it useful. I am sure I have never seen this publicised on any list and as the National Archives are doing this as a pilot to see whether it will prove useful, use it or lose it! For those who have visited Kew, you will have seen the hundreds of filing cabinets in the main open search room. These are being put on line and downloadable into PDF files for FREE. At the moment there are about 190 films available, but as many of them are Admiralty and War Office, anyone with Royal Navy and Coastguards connections should definitely check them out. (I have already found some useful stuff). Some of the films are indexes and/or finding aids to other records, however I have spotted some which include full service records of the people concerned. A word of warning though - the files are extremely large and can take quite a time to download even with a broadband connection. You can save and keep the file for 56 days. How to find them: Go to the National Archives at: www.nationalarchives.gov.uk Click on Documents Online Click on Advanced Search in the Quick Search Box Unclick all the categories except Digital Microfilm In Media types, unclick everything except Text Click on Search On the next page click on Digital Microfilm You will then be presented with a list of everything available. Once you have identified the piece you want to view, click on See Details and then proceed as if you were going to purchase an image via the checkout. You end up with an invoice detail of £0.00 and inctructions to Download Now. Hope this proves useful to someone. Can anyone give advice re Fort Cumberland - Portsmouth please. I am trying to trace a family member supposedly born at Fort Cumberland in 1790's. Does this mean that the father would have been a Royal Marine? Is it possible to search the archives to find out the names of the people at Fort Cumberland? Does anyone know how this can be done? Thanks Cyndy
The following pages/updates have been added to the website SOUTHERNLIFE(UK) HAMPSHIRE We are adding a new section which shows photos of the ships that call into Southampton http://southernlife.org.uk/ships/ships_1.htm (this is an experimental page so let us hear what you think by emailing us direct and NOT via the lists please) I am constantly looking for old photographs of the villages featured, and for new villages we may have missed. Please contact me before sending any articles though and they must be copyright free. April Thank you for your concern. This will be the 13th surgury so hopefully it will make a difference. If not the next step is amputation and I don't look forward to that idea. I just want to get around and not be in so much pain and maybe this time that will happen. But no matter what I am grateful to still be alive and enjoying my grandchildren and life. Ruby
