I have a copy of the will of my 4xGGrandfather, James Paul in which he refers to his wife Ann, formerly married to a Mr Thatcher. He seems to have been previously married to a Tryphosa Allbury who, according to the IGI, was the mother of at least some of his children. In his will he refers to the his daughter Mary Paul who married William Dowling and to his son James. The only likely christening of a Mary Paul in the IGI is one on 12 February 1790 at Holy Trinity, Gosport where the parents are given as James Paul and Raforia. Likewise, the only likely James Paul christening was on 20 March 1789 and had the same parents. Linda and Tony, please could you look these up for me and see if there is any additional information which might help. It's possibly James married 3 times and if so, seems to have had a penchant for wives with unusual names: I wonder what happened with "Ann", though! Also according to the will, another daughter of James, Susan (possibly Susanna) Paul married a John Boys, a Grocer in Gosport. I haven't found any record of this marriage. Has anyone else got a Boys family who might be connected? Susanna Paul was born in Gosport in 1779, but it's possible that Susan is a different child. James refers to "all those my nine several pews or seats in the Gosport Chapel." Would Holy Trinity have been referred to as a/the Chapel at that time? -- Jenny M Benson
