Hi all As it is so quiet on the list, I assume you have all been glued to BBC News 24 and the Trafalgar 200 celebrations. (If you haven't, try going to BBC News 24 on the internet, as earlier this afternoon they had a long video of last nights events - the Battle of Trafalgar & the fireworks. This evening they may have something from the Drumhead ceremony at Southsea). Anyway, my good news. I knew from various sources that my gggranddad John PRIEST, was a Coastguard at Telscombe in Sussex, his first children were baptised in Gosport & later ones at Telscombe. He returned to Gosport after retiring as a Coastguard and is buried at Anns Hill Cemetery (found his grave on my last visit to Gosport). I had contacted someone in April 2004 (that is not a typo) who specialises in looking up Coastguard records at Kew & yesterday I had an amazing package in my post. She supplied so much info, I haven't been able to take it all in yet. But I now know John Priest was born in Boston Lincs on 16 May 1806. Sods Law - Boston for that time is is not on IGI, but contacted someone on the Lincs lookup who may be able to find a baptism. So that is a brickwall 1/2 way knocked down! Just though I'll let you know Rita PS - Trafalgar 200 is on BBC Anglia East at 7pm tomorrow (Thursday night).
