Hello Maureen i not sure if you have heard of the IGI at www.familysearch.org but have just checked in case you're a newbie to family history and there is a baptism there of Henry LAWES son of John & Mary in Holy Trinity church Gospor 5 Oct 1825 and not Portsmouth and a marriage in St Mary's Portsea of a John LAWES & Mary KNIGHT 26 Oct 1819 at St Mary's Portsea. Would you like the full details sent? Also if you check the above site you might find the possible correct baptism for your John LAWES but difficult pre 1837 . Linda and Tony Is it possible to find John Lawes, the father of Henry Lawes, who was born about 1800 possibly in Hampshire? His son was born in Portsmouth in 1826 and was a customs officer. I haven't been able to find any record of the father or mother. Thanks Maureen
