Hello Valerie There are no separate illegitimate records - in 1849, a birth would be registered in the normal GRO returns and the baptism within the normal parish registers - sometimes the incumbent may put a special note on the baptism entry such a illegitimate or base born or of course, only a mothers name being shown is an obvious clue. Good Day, If all births were done "perfectly" this old planet would hardly be populated! Cheers, Edna - (;-))ttawa
Hi In the case of my grgrandmother the birth was registered as if her parents were marrried, they didn't actually marry until she was six years old! I thought, maybe wrongly that the illegimate children were registered. Anyway many thanks Take care Val Knightroots@aol.com wrote: Hello Valerie There are no separate illegitimate records - in 1849, a birth would be registered in the normal GRO returns and the baptism within the normal parish registers - sometimes the incumbent may put a special note on the baptism entry such a illegitimate or base born or of course, only a mothers name being shown is an obvious clue.
