Hi everyone, I was somewhat puzzled today when I discovered that my wife's great grandparents appeared to have lived in the Alverstoke Workhouse for a while. The family at that time consisted of father aged 29, mother 25, and 3 children ranging from 4 to a few months. The father was a seaman with the Royal Navy. Within the space of a year After they left the Workhouse, they lived at 3 addresses in Gosport, Saint Anne's Terrace, Anns Hill Lane, and russell Street. Does anyone have any idea as to why they may have found themselves in the workhouse for a period of time? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
