Hello Sally no grandfather was a publisher in India and have checked 1837 online (all births overseas) and also visited the OIOC in London for his birth but it appears that his birth was one of those whose wasn't sent to Britain amongst the returns. Apparenty didn't always happen so despite having checked all 3 India presidencies there zilch! Thi side of the family is leading us a merry dance) but we will not give up. Thanks anyway Sally,Linda and Tony Hello Linda and Tony, I knew that my Portsmouth grandfather DUST had been born in China in 1877and found his father had been in the Army. I finally found his birth registered in GRO Army Chaplain's Returns Indices (1796-1880) on 1837on-line, and so was able to send for his birth certificate, taking me further back. Could your great-uncle have been in India through being a Forces Dependant? There are also Consul's lists on that site. In looking for Grandfather I also found other brothers born abroad that my mother knew nothing about! So she at aged 90 is still learning! I have a page in front of me with some D and E names on it, several in India. Hope I'm not telling you things you already knew!! Best wishes, Sally
