    3. Hi Liz, HMS Duke of Wellington was launched in 14 Sept 1852 as HMS Windsor Castle but was renamed in honour of the Duke who died on that day. After serving in the Crimean War she was relegated to harbour service in Portsmouth in 1863. She was decommissioned in 1909 so would have appeared in the 1871,1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses David ----- Original Message ----- From: "Liz McAsey" <eamcasey@ntlworld.com> To: <ENG-HAM-PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, August 17, 2005 11:26 AM Subject: [PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT] HMS The Duke of Wellington census returns > Please could anyone tellme if there were census returns for HMS Duke of > Wellington,I am looking for a sailor who gave that ship as the one he was > serving on onhis daughters birth certificate in Portsea in 1890, his name > was Anthony Rattenbury [or Rottenbury Griffiths and he was born Birmingham. > Thanks, > Liz > > > ==== ENG-HAM-PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT Mailing List ==== > Granny SMITHs aren't just the name of an apple they are in many a family tree too > > ============================== > Jumpstart your genealogy with OneWorldTree. 3. I have the census for the Duke of Wellington in 1901, or part of it @ RG13/1000 As I understand it she was a permanent fixture in the harbour for a very long period.
