    2. Hi Bob, Its always worth giving the National Archives a going over. Your boatswain is there in several references serving from 1818 t0 1854. The boatswain looks after all the masts, boats and rigging, the Gunner the guns, Ammunition and Powder. I suspect the gunner is the son of the boatswain. Mike Waterlooville
