    1. the VECK / ALBRAY connection?

    3. Hi everyone, I know I've posted on this list re my albray brickwall a couple of times, and sadly it stayed a brickwall. Apart from references to George Allberry/Aldbury/Aubery/Aubrey/Albray on parish fiches of Fareham and Gosport, the only info I have on his approx age of birth is the 1851 census of Fareham, where he was approx 53, (b1798), then take the usual 1 year difference that shows up, and we have a birth year of around 1797/8. No marriage records, no death or burial details, very little to go on. 3 children were born to George and his wife/partner Elizabeth Parsons formerly Childs: Rhoda 1843, James 1846, and HENRY my wife's grt grandfather in 1847. Well, my continued digging about may have paid off, or at least, I hope?? I found out recently that Henry Albray's mother-in-law to be, Elizabeth Harvey, was working as cook at the vicarage of St John's, Forton, in 1861. I thought she'd died, but evidently not! the Incumbent of St John's from 1831 to 1866 was Henry Veck. but, and this is a big but, his 2nd forename was, wait for it, AUBERY.....! Henry Albray's birth certificate of December 17 1847 had his name written as Aubery, and his two elder sibblings were christened at Fareham with the name Aubrey. So I found myself searching through the Veck family, to see if by any sheer chance Henry had a brother George born about 1797. Chances? Slimmer than slim? Well I started out by finding Henry aubery Veck's birth on the IGI, he was chr 1785 at Bishops Waltham. Great, that should at least give me his father's name, if not his parents names! and there it was, Richard Aubery Veck. Richard married Elizabeth Bulpett at Old alresford in 1784, although the parish details show that he was from bishops Waltham. OK, great, now, what other children did Richard and Elizabeth have? Believe it or not, they had a George! And when was George christened? Wait for it, waaaaaaiiiiit foooooorrr it!!! October 20, 1797......!!!! So, my current theory is that George Veck could have moved to the Fareham area and for some reason taken on his father's and brother's 2nd forename of "Aubery" as his surname. chances seem pretty good to me! As Elizabeth Harvey obviously knew Henry Aubery Veck, as she worked for him, then if Henry Albray was George Veck alias Albray's son, then there's every chance Henry Albray would have called in to visit his uncle Henry aubery Veck! Elizabeth Harvey could have taken a liking to young Henry, and could wel have introduced him to her daughter charlotte which eventually lead to the marriage of Henry albray and Charlotte Harvey on Oct 30, 1871. Makes sense to me, I'd be interested to know what other listers think? Quite a bit to take in, but it all adds up rather nicely I think? Let me know your conclusions on it please. kind regards to all, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. Dear listers, I have just discovered a burial index at Bishops Waltham: George Veck - 11 February 1798 at Bishops Waltham no further details given. Is there anyone that can access the PR to see if this George was an infant or an older child/adult please? I've got this strong gut feeling that my theory has been smashed by the finding of this piece of info. Any additional information on this burial date of George Veck would be extremely appreciated.
