    1. HILLIER / HELLYER 1785 to 1815
    2. Does anyone on the list have knowledge of the John HILLIER / HELLYER ( and variant spellings ) , married to Sarah and baptising children at Alverstoke and St Mary's , Portsea in the 15 years either side of 1800 ? He ( or they if there are two couples ) are possibly the same as namesakes at Greenwich . My John HILLIER was a Thames Waterman and I am looking at the possibility that he spent some of this period in the Navy at Portsmouth and some at Greenwich , perhaps as a personal crewman for a senior Naval officer . On the other hand , I know that the HILLIER etc surname goes back well before this in the Portsmouth area . Thus I would benefit greatly from the expertise of anyone with understanding of the local HILLIER etc. families of this period and earlier . Best wishes to all listers Robert HIllier Poole Dorset
