    3. I have just discovered that my maternal gg grandfather served on board the royal yacht HMS Osborne in 1881 as Rigger. Does anybody know of a website that can tell me both about the ship and about riggers? I have put it into google but can only find pictures of the ship. Many thanks Mark

    3. Hi, You could try TheShips List and Mariners-L. Very good knowledgeable people on those lists, not say there is none on this list... 3. A ship's rigging is her masts and ropes that support the sails, and a rigger is a man who maintains and arranges it. Dangerous work, as a slip often was a fatal fall. 3. Hi Mark, I don't have any websites with the actual information, but you could try contacting the National Maritime Museum at Greenwich, http://www.nmm.ac.uk/ or if you live near to Gosport, the Library/Discovery Centre holds the Hampshire Naval Collection, which may contain something. http://www.discoverycentres.co.uk/gosport/localstudies/naval-collection.html Good Luck Margaret >I have just discovered that my maternal gg grandfather served on board > the royal yacht HMS Osborne in 1881 as Rigger.
