    3. When the monarchy was restored in 1660, it was decided that the king needed an income of £1,200,000, so new forms of taxation had to be found. One of these was the Hearth Tax which was imposed for only a brief period, 1662-1689,and was replaced by the window tax. As we do not have even one hearth in our home in Ontario, I think that it about time for one of our levels of government to reduce the income tax rate and enact a Hearth Tax.
