    1. Louisa Paul, born 1846

    3. There is an entry in the IGI for a Louisa Mary Paul, born in May 1846 and baptised in June 1846 at Holy Trinity Gosport. Her parents are John Paul (my GG Grandfather's brother) and Emma (Ensor). Free BMD has a record of a Birth in the June quarter of 1846, Alverstoke, 7, 30 for a Louisa Ann Paul. I have looked at the image for this entry and how anyone deciphered anything of the middle name I don't know! My question is, if I send to the GRO for the Birth Certificate, should I request the certificate for Louisa Jane Paul, Louisa Ann Paul or simply say Louisa Paul? I don't want to specify the parents as John and Emma because if by chance this is a different Louisa Paul then I want to know who her parents were. Which brings up a supplementary question. If one requests a Certificate and specifies "only if parents are X and Y", I understand some portion of the fee is refunded if the restriction doesn't apply. But does the GRO reply saying "We are refunding because the parents in this case were A and B" or do they say "We are refunding because the parents were not X and Y."? -- Jenny M Benson
