Hi Linda & Tony: If you have access to St. Thomas Portsmouth marriages for 1843, could you possibly look up George GILES and Maria JOHNSON marriage on 16 October 1843. George should be 36 and may be a widower (hopefully!) and Maria age 22 b. Portsmouth, IGI ref. M062512 0919732 NONE. They have been found in 1881 and 1871 censuses ages 75/60 and 64/50 respectively. I have found no chr. for Maria. George was b. Reading/Newbury Berks abt. 1807, poss. chr. St. Mary Reading s/o John & Jane 13 Jan 1810. I think George married previously but haven't found a marriage in Berks, Hants or Herts that would fit my brickwall Sarah GILES . It would help to know if this later marriage has him as a widower, as he was shown at Sarah GILES 1858 marriage in St. Mary's Portsea as her father. There is a marriage in 1827 of a George GILES and Mary DATSON at Yalding Kent, with a dau. Sarah chr. 3 Jun 1832 at Frindsbury Kent, but that doesn't match her statement in four censuses that she was b. St. Albans Herts! Any help appreciated. Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA.
