    3. Hi all: There were several messages on the YORKSGEN list in January 2005 relating to the activities of this site; I quote from a message dated January 19, 2005: "Gov-Certificates is a professional search and Supply Company for the supply of Birth certificates, Marriage certificates and Death Certificates" This thread included mention of the £23 charge made by Gov-Certificates.co.uk, which was charged in euros by "Certificates SEO31 France" and suggestions to send the information to the watchdog site http://www.consumercomplaints.org.uk/ If this was done back then, surely this site should not still be operating! There was also a problem re "Research UK St. Leonards", AKA Ancestor Detectives on a different list, which was being investigated by Sussex Police back in April. The old adage "buyer beware" clearly applies here. The GRO site will not make fraudulent charges nor charge you excessive prices, as the tariff has been established, so I wouldn't bother with other sites that claim to get your certificates quicker etc. I hear lots of reports on the several Rootsweb sites about how good the GRO service has been. Regards Martin Willcocks Taylorsville, UT, USA. "J P NIXEY" <jpnixey@btinternet.com> wrote: Dear listers, It would appear that a bogus certificate ordering website has sprung up: http://www.gov-certificates.co.uk/ they appear to charge £23 per certificate. As anyone ordering from the official depts will know, they only cost £7, and sometimes a search charge is required of £4. Please alert your fellow genealogists to this, especially the newbies. Kind regards, Jon
