Hi everyone, I have had slightly conflicting info sent me from a number of people regarding the address of George Allbray and his family in Fareham on the 1851 census. The majority say the address is 119 Russell Place, but I have also had suggested to me Rupet Place. Is there anyone on the list with a good knowledge of Fareham that could tell me if a Rupet Place ever existed please? I have tried googling for info, and there are a lot of hits for Russell Place, but apart from info I have on my website, no other mention of Rupet Place can be found. This doesn't mean that it never existed of course, just that I'm the only person to include it on the net .....yeah right eh? Gutt feelings are that it is Russell, but I was sent info some time ago that said that Rupet Place was between East St and West St. Could someone possibly help clear this matter up for me? Many thanks for any help that can be given, kindest regards to all as always, Jon

Russell Place exists, but is not within the district as described in the census. The district the family are at runs eastwards on the south side of West Street, starting at Portland Place, and bounded by the sea (Fareham Creek I suppose). Russell Place is on the north side of West Street, and to the west of the described district. The confusion over the street name is because the 'p' in the middle has been interpreted as if it could be an old fashioned 'ss', written 'fs', and the final letter is also ambiguous, though not obviously 'll'.
