I am trying to trace a missing relative John GALLIENNE b Abt 1862 Guernsey Channel Islands according to the 1871 Census where he was living with his Grandmother Mary BURGESS nee RILEY and his sister Ellen Mary b 6 Apr 1864 in Alverstoke Gosport. Ellen Mary was classed as an Idiot from birth and also suffered Epilepsy (probably why she was called an idiot) from the age of 4 probably the reason she was living with her grandmother as her parents at that time had twins to support and would not be able to cope with her as well. Why John was living there I don't know, was he helping to look after his sister. In 1872 their grandmother Mary died and by the 1881 Census Ellen Mary was in the Alverstoke House of Industry and John was nowhere to be found on any census so far. Being that he would have been only ten years old why did he not go and live with his parents, did he die, did he go into the House of Industry with his sister, did he join the navy and follow his father? I have found no evidence of any of this as yet. Quite a Mystery anyone want to try and solve it. Bob
