Bob it's from the Free BMD index, no such info as birthplace etc, you'd have to actually get the certificate to see what info is on there.......birthplace still won't be though. Just to throw a spanner in the works, there's also a John Gallienne born 1863 at Guernsey on one of the Channel Island censuses, but you seem to have found your John with his grandmother in mainland UK on that census. Any way of you finding your John's birth details at Guernsey? All the best for now, Jon
