Hi Santa (or any of his little helpers out there!) I have only one family in Hampshire, but they are proving a bit of a brick wall for me. My gt-gt-grandfather was (Henry) John Samuel MIDLANE - he used various combinations of those first names through his life, but was registered John Samuel MIDLANE when he was born in 1848 in Portsea. He married a Jane Emily SIMMONDS (who was born about 1852), and she is the one proving difficult. I have not been able to find their marriage, although I have searched the GRO index under both his and her names. Their first child was my gt-grandmother, Rosina Alice MIDLANE, and she was born in Derby in 1872. I have the family on the 1881, 1891 and 1901 censuses, where Jane Emily states that she was born in London, Middlesex on two of them, and Portsmouth, Sussex on the other. I have a possible Jane SIMMONDS (with family) and a possible Henry MIDLANE on the 1871 census, both unmarried. There is a Jane Emily SIMMONDS in Portsea who married someone else in 1870, which threw me for a while. I don't know the name of Jane SIMMONDS father, so am stuck with my SIMMONDS branch. If anyone can help me find this marriage, I would be most grateful! Sarah
