    3. Hi List In the Dorchester Gaol Registers (1782-1853) www.swgfl.org.uk/dorswet/html/teachers/Databae/gaol%20_register10a.htm there is the following entry Gosport (Hampshire) Atwell Edward the elder Male, Mariner, Date 1841, age 42 years, crime Smuggling, sentence 6 months and, Atwell Edward the younger, Mariner , Date 1841, age 13 years, crime Smuggling, sentence 6 months. A "Hines" cousin checked this entry out when she visited Dorcester Museum recently & sent me copies of the register. Their address was High Street Gosport, senior Atwell was a Widower with 4 children, younger Atwell single. The younger was discharged by order of the committee magistrates. The elder declared there was a Warrent for debt and he was turned over to the Debtor Court. The previous entry was also sentenced to 6 mths with a release date of 13 April 1842, so imprison date must be 14 October 1841. I can't find any suitable Atwells living in High St Gosport in 1841 or 1851 Censuses. We think this could be the Edward Atwell (Atwool or Atwooll) who married the widowed Sarah Hines (nee Paise) at Portsmouth in 1955. If anyone trips over any Atwells in High St Gosport about 1841 - do let me know! Rita
