In answer to my recent enquiry I received the following reply from the RHR Museum, can anyone on the list advise as to where I could find more information on the Royal Artillery. The Hampshire Regiment was an infantry regiment, whereas the Royal Artillery is an artillery regiment. If the information you have states that he belonged to the Royal Artillery, it is very unlikely that he transferred to the Hampshire Regiment before he died at the young age of 19. In a recent search I came across the death of Robert YELF age 19 years Gunner with the Royal Artillery who died on the 23rd of June 1886 at Hilsea? Hospital,Cosham and was certified by J.S.Mac.Adam.M.D. also present at the death H.Dixon. The death was registered at Fareham,County of Southampton 23/6/1886. His parents are Robert and Catherine YELF of Southampton. How would I find out if Robert YELF was a member of the Royal Hampshire regiment at the time of his death and if not which regiment could he possibly have been with?
