Hi Jan Of course I would have asked you but I know from our searches that we do not know the parents however I have been contacted by a per son who apparently thinks that this William is probaby a part of his family from Dorset. here is his Genes message. get back to you later Hi Robert, You have William CAINS b. 1771 Dorset and you have his children born in Gosport. I am trying to prove the that the William born in Dorset and the William later living in Gosport are the same person. My g.g.g. uncle William CAINES was bap. 21 Jul 1771 Lydlinch, s. of Benjamin & Margaret, née HOPKINS, and I have some circumstantial evidence to suggest that he was the same one living later in Gosport. Can you help please? Hello Bob I'm a bit upset that you didn't ask me for the details, as you know that I am directly descended from this couple. There are no parents as it was an old style certificate. They married 6th Nov 1793 St. Thomas Portsea. Thomas Miller was one witness and the other is unreadable. Do you want to know anything else? Regards Jan Bob Newell <bob.newell@ntlworld.com> wrote: Looking for details particularly the parents of a marriage on the 6 Nov 1793 in Portsea. Hi, This is my first time on this list and I am searching for a William Howlett wife Elizabeth. Their son William Henry Howlett was christened 14 March 1806 at St. Thomas Portsmouth. (IGI batch no. C062513) He married in Liverpool and lived there. On the 1881 census he said he was born at sea. 1851 census he said he was born in Portsmouth. I am trying to find any information of his parents, where they came from. If anyone can point me in the right direction regarding ships coming into Portsmouth I would be very grateful. Thank you, Audrey Thomas.

Hi Maureen. I'm sure that 1840 would be a bit too early for photography. There may be some paintings by local artist at that period. Hello Brian. May I enlist your help again, please. I have the report from the Suffolk, UK newspaper that James JOSELYN/JOSLIN/JOSSELYN (whatever) was on the Leviathan in 1838. I was given a convict number - 1761 - which I passed on to a VKS on list, who was looking for further info on his whereabouts. She told me that each person is given a number for a particular hulk and that particular number was for the Hull hulk, and James would have had another number for the Leviathan. Being a bit "thick" it has only just dawned on me that the HULL would be a ship. I realise I must go back to anther website to ascertain where the HULL was between 1838 and 1844, but in the meantime, if you do have access to the 1841C for Portsmouth could you easily tell if the HULL is on the 1841C - when you have the time. Thank you so much.
