Hi Jon, I've checked FreeBMD etc for her and found there were two possible Sarah Knights who married in Portsea alone, I was hoping somebody might have this one who was formerly a Hewitt. But thanks for your reply anyway. Hi Linda & Tony, I have the death certificate of my great grandmother, Jane Maria Moon, who died 8 May 1894 aged 78 at Hardway. I believe there is a mistake on the certificate. Under 'occupation' they have put 'widow of' and then put her son's name rather than her husband. The burial is mentioned in the Alverstoke parish registers on your web-site. Is there any more information available? Regards, John -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. Version: 7.0.308 / Virus Database: 266.11.0 - Release Date: 29/04/05
Regarding Edna's comment that Mile End cemetery is now a car park could anyone tell me what happened to the remains or was it literally just tarmacced over?? I understand that the burial records for this cemetery are at Portsmouth Record Office. Thanks Shirley, Cambridge UK

We have James KNIGHT born Arundel Sussex 1842 married Mary? Born 1842/3 Portsmouth (according to the 1881 census). Children 1. Robert born 1869/70 Portsmouth and 2. Mary A born 1874/5. That's one KNIGHT family from Portsmouth although there may have been more children born to James & Mary! The daughter Mary A then added to the confusion by marrying into another KNIGHT family Amos I 1895. So there are multitudes of KNIGHTs in many Counties who could connect to us as we have another separate lot of KNIGHTs originating from Banbury Oxfordshire (obviously no connection to this list so far as we are aware). If any of this lot might connect please contact us as there must be someone who connect up somewhere.. Linda and Tony Sharon, I have an Eliza Hewitt b. 1832 Portsmouth ... Hello All, I am not very familiar with the Portsmouth area but am trying to help a non PC friend research his family in this area. His father was William Alec Galloway born Portsmouth 1917 son of William Campbell Galloway and Elizabeth nee Cox, also his mother was Lillian Beatrice DAY born 1909 Portsmouth to Alfred George Day and Lilian Selina Green. He believes Lillian Day may have been married to a GANDER first?? Alfred George Day could have had siblings, Dink, Reg, Pat, Tom, Bill. All help or news of this family most welcome. There may be or at least should be living descendants still in the area. Hi All, I wondered if anyone who had been accessing church files or census, electoral rolls etc in the Portsmouth area for the name of Clegg, or could have come across this name.I know in 1891 census Stephen Robert Clegg lived in Commercial Road. I started to research about two years ago ,but circumstances meant I had to put the research on hold for a while. I know would like to resume my study of the Cleggs any pointer in the right direction would be appreciated Maori -- Whatever you Wanadoo: http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/time/ This email has been checked for most known viruses - find out more at: http://www.wanadoo.co.uk/help/id/7098.htm
