    1. Odd Name
    2. Could well be a family surname even going way back possibly on the maternal side to carry on the name in some way like a double barrelled name. 1. Odd Name
    2. We found it very confusing when we first started out as all great grandparents and children were known by their middle names so were looking for the wrong christian names to start with. Linda and Tony

    1. C/G Station, IOW.
    2. Mornning Joan your best bet would be to e mail the Isle of Wight family history society or the record office in Newport. Here is a link _http://www.iwight.com/library/history/history.asp_ (http://www.iwight.com/library/history/history.asp) Good luck and let us know how you get on. Take care,Linda and Tony Good Morning, I have received a copy of the 1891 census showing my g/grandfather and his family were living at Newtown IoW. I have also been given a photograph of a group of men sitting on steps at what appears to be a defence post. As this photo was given to me with other papers from my uncle, unfortunately he didn't know who the men were, presumably one was my g.g.f. Would anyone have any idea as to where I may be able to find photographs of C/G stations on the IoW, please? Regards, Joan. Sydney. Aust.

    1. Portsea/Portsmouth marriage look-ups
    2. Andy & Carol Franks
    3. Dear Tony and Linda I wonder if you could check the following marriages for me from the IGI? William ELLIOTT to Elizabeth EVANS 9 JUN 1788 at Saint Thomas, Portsmouth. I am interested in the names of witnesses and whether it might give any additional details. William ELLIOTT to Elizabeth NORTH 27 AUG 1793 at Saint Marys, Portsea. I wonder if this is the same William ELLIOTT as above and whether it could be a second marriage. There is also a further William ELLIOTT marriage which I am also interested in and which I think could be that of the son of one of the William's above. This is also on the IGI: William ELLIOTT to Elizabeth PAYNE on 17 APR 1816 at Saint Marys, Portsea. It is extremely frustrating that these William ELLIOTTs are all marrying Elizabeths. I have 3 William ELLIOTTs in a row in my family but thankfully the last is a William John ELLIOTT. Thank you in advance. Kind regards Carol in Berkshire, UK

    1. George Woodman lookup
    2. Hello Dave sorry but this isn't a look up as a BMD death and reference is only for a death place and not a burial. Alverstoke on BMD is the district and thisconsists of several places. in Gosport or Alverstoke. We have checked Alverstoke, which we have indexed and also Anns Hill cemetery (the municipal cemetery) and the burial did not take place in either of these. Sorry,Linda and Tony Hi Linda & Tony, can you lookup up burial for George Woodman at Alverstoke. On FreeBMD he is listed as George Woodman, Deaths March 1859, Alverstoke 2b, page 327. I can't find him on your parish registers or IGI. I think he may have been in the navy as his wife was from Chatham. Thank you, Dave Hartnett, Sth. Aust.
