Joan Do a Google on "Coastguards Isle of Wight" and hopefully you will come up with a site run by Ann ??? which has census transcriptions for most of the Isle of Wight coastguard stations. (plus masses of other IOW related information). Send her an e'mail with your query, as I was in contact with a guy last year who was detailing all the coast guard stations - if anyone has photos these 2 will. If you don't get any joy, contact me off list & I'll try and find his e-mail details. Hello all Many thanks for the ideas, but it is the origin of the name Gunborne I am looking for. I've searched all of the main line search engines, IGI, PRO etc, and the result is the same .... not found. Born on board a ship seems to be the only logical answer (thanks David), but I find it hard to believe that the name is so unique as not to have a mention somewhere on the ww web. Anyhow, thanks for all the ideas, and please keep them coming. Hi Linda & Tony: Could you please look up the marriage between William WILLCOCKS and Eliza(beth) YOUNG on 1 Jan 1825 at St. Mary's Portsea and send me the details? IGI Ba: M062613 1820 - 1828 So: 0919749 Film Pr: NONE From what I've found so far, Elizabeth was b. 6 Feb 1804 and chr. at Orange Street NC Church on 9 Jul 1804, d/o John YOUNG and Elizabeth (DAVENPORT). William was b 15 Dec 1802 and chr 27 Feb 1803 at St. Mary's Portsea, s/o Robert WILLCOCKS and Mary Ann (CONN) (birth date recorded in parish register, looked up years ago by my brother.) I'd be interested to know if Elizabeth (chr. Eliza) was a minor (by one month) on her wedding day! Regards Martin Willcocks Tayorsville, UT, USA.
Hugh Wallis has a IGI Middle Name Index at http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~hughwallis/index.htm which is very useful Debbie Knightroots@aol.com wrote: >We found it very confusing when we first started out as all great >grandparents and children were known by their middle names so were looking for the >wrong christian names to start with. >Linda and Tony > > >==== ENG-HAM-PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT Mailing List ==== >practice safe text - tell the Listowners about virus worries - DON'T >SPREAD IT ON THE LIST! > >============================== >Search the US Census Collection. Hi, I've got a few examples of this in my tree. I'm assuming it's a surname which is being used as a middle name. In my family, I have an illegitimate son (brother of my gt-grandfather) who was first called John CARTER, but eventually became known as John Carter MIDDLETON after his parents married. My Dad has the middle name Lindley, which was his mother's maiden name; my gt-grandfather was Percy Jepson LINDLEY, and I recently found out that JEPSON was his grandmother's maiden name. Hope that's useful. A wild guess: gunborne = son of a gun = born onboard ship.
