    3. Hi, Thanks for replies regarding my mail I was since been given a photocopy of page from a reference book – yet to find out the name but states “VACCINATION RECORDS Vaccination Registers listing the children their ages, parishes and dates of vaccination exist from 1862 to 1948 but are closed to public inspection for 50 years. For further information read Were They In The Union? Workhouse Administration and Records by Marion Joy Lodey, ‘The Gen. Mag.’ Vol. 20 No 4 (Dec 1980).” So now need to find the Mag. Vol 20 - wonder what that will tell us. From another source seems that the records are not at Winchester. Regards Jenny _________________________________________________________________ Dating? 3. My GG Grandfather worked in the dockyard between abound 1830 as a joiner, and 1881 when he was a Superintendant Inspector of Joiners. His name was James Edward Smith, born Portsea 13 July 1815. During this period, he still found time to get married and to produce 10 children. Is there any online source I can get access to so that I can check his employment records? 1. Elusive wives!
    2. PMR
    3. Hello Listers 6 x ggf, Richard ROBINS, s/o Thomas ROBINS & Ann, was baptised in St Mary's Alverstoke (I hope I've got that right!) on 16 Jan 1671/2 and married Sarah before 1693 when their first child was baptised. At a guess, his father was born around 1635 and married before 1658 when the eldest child was baptised. I have some related questions. Does anyone have records that may show the marriages of Thomas and Ann, and Richard and Sarah, and Thomas's father John, please? John, was married some time before about 1635 to his first wife who was Thomas's mother. In his Will, his wife is, from the wording, obviously a second wife. I have the Wills of all three men, which link them together as listed: Father (John), Son (Thomas), Grandson (Richard). Any help will be gratefully appreciated. Many thanks. Slater's directory of Hampshire etc 1852-3 shows her at the Mile End Tavern, 51 Eden Row. You can see the entry for yourself by going to http://www.historicaldirectories.org and doing a keyword search for "Hampshire", "1850s" and "Mahala". -- Jenny M Benson

    3. Hi Joan Depends what sort of medal - possibly the London Gazette. At the present time this is only on-line for WWI and WWII at: http://www.gazettes-online.co.uk/index.asp?webType=0 but ISTR reading that it is intended to put the 19th century content of this government newspaper on-line idc, ie I don't think they gave a date for the publication of this material. A little difficult for you in Oz, but you might also find that the local newspapers might have covered the award, and might give a little more detail with respect to the reason for the award - the London Gazette can be a little bland and may give no details apart from the fact that it was awarded. If, however, he was in the armed forces and this was merely for the award of service campaign medals or for the Long Service and Good Conduct medal, then you may need to research his service career. Medals were also awarded by other organisations, such as the Humane Society, for lifesaving, and by Church bodies etc., but I wouldn't have thought that that would warrant a visit to Whitehall ? 1. Re: [PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT] Vaccination Records
    2. Although noted in the patients medical record by the family doctor Certificates were issued in accordance with international agreements. In addition to Smallpox, certificates were issued for vaccinations against Yellow Fever (10years), Cholera (6mths), Typhoid (3 years), and Polio (10 years). The figure in brackets is the effective period of the vaccination. Add measles, mumps, ruebella, hepatitus and tetanus to that lot you can understand why the population despite falling birth rates continues to grow. It is said that the Queen only sent 500 cards to people reaching their 100th birthday in the first year of her reign and that figure has grown to more than 5000 now! Mike Waterlooville
