    1. Re: [PORTSMOUTH-GOSPORT] Hello
    2. Well Jon those opticians need to update their files a bit.. Fire away on your brickwalls perhaps some of us can helps you fill in some gaps..(hopefully). A good pastime in the damp weather mind you we have been withou our pooter for a couple of hours while the router went AWOL. Look forward to your brickwalls Jon and all. Take care,Linda and Tony : Well Su said she saw some lightning this morning, but I have to be honest, I didn't see any???? Plenty of water up here, but thankfully not enough in this local area to have caused too much problem. It's been very pleasant up here since late morning, quite a nice afternoon with just the odd little spot or two of rain, but nothing worth mentioning. I'd better not say too much in case we get another helping of the thunderstorms? I had a letter from the local optician this morning, telling me that they note they haven't seen me in a number of years, and encouraged me to make an appointment so that I could enjoy a continued quality of vision????? I think they may be just a little too late??? By about 20 years?? Mind you, it may be worth a shot, it could help me see those ancestors that I can't seem to find anywhere! Take care all, Jon ----- Original Message -----

    1. Re:] BMD record database to transfer to India
    2. Kindly forwarded by Edna. So thanks Edna. Linda and Tony In a message dated 23/06/05 16:24:38 GMT Daylight Time, ekbrit@rogers.com writes: A controversial deal will be signed in two weeks time to transfer the database containing all BMD's since 1837 from the ONS to India. Registers will be scanned in England and Wales and then transferred using an encrypted link to Madras, India, where the new digital database will be administered. This is happening despite protests from MP's peers and Trade Unions. Some MP's have signed an early day motion tabled by John McDonnell, labour MP for Hayes and Harlington asking that the transfer be stopped. The Public and Commercial Services union is also launching a campaign to prevent the event.

    2. The International Drumhead Ceremony takes place on Southsea Common adjacent to the Naval War Memorial on 29th June starting at 1100. Unfortunately it is in the opposite direction from Old Portsmouth where the Harboureye Webcam and Tower Webcam are situated although you will see some of the ships arriving for the International Festival of the Sea. 3. Hello Linda and Tony I've tried sending this to you as a 'reply to' to messages you've posted (so the address would be correct) on two occasions but each time I get this message: > Your mail to the following recipients could not be delivered because they > are not accepting mail from cliveden@acenet.net.au: > knightroots I then tried sending it to an address I was sent by someone who'd read of my dilemma. That too bounced this morning. I hope this one works! Here's the message I've been trying to send. I found not so long ago that I MAY have some KNIGHTs in my ancestry, but over the border in Sussex. My research is not proved 'QED' but it seems possibly that John FLOAT and Agnes KNIGHT (married 29 Jan 1574/5 in Wisborough Green) could be my 9 x great-grandparents. Does this link in with your KNIGHTs in any way? I have a second query; it is regarding lookups. There are some marriages for my Hants ancestors that I don't yet have - nor do I have some of the baptisms and burials! I saw your messages re lookups (and I THINK I was in contact with you some years ago, but my memory has some holes in it!!). Could you tell me the procedure please? Is it one email for a 'one person' request, or for one surname but maybe 2 or 3 people, or what? What happens when the parish is not known? I know the wives Christian names in most cases as I have some Wills of their menfolk, so can limit a request that way. These are for 1600s to 1800s. Many thanks.
