    2. Margaret
    3. Hi Shannon You do not need to know the mother's name to order the birth certificate. You only need the quarter and the reference, which is Volume 2b, page 512. Have you ordered from the website before? You can go to http://www.1837online.com/Trace2web/ and follow the instructions there. Hope this helps and you find out who her mother was Regards Margaret > > I am trying to decipher which one of two women were my great grandmothers > birth mother. 1. Dockyard link with the South Western railway
    2. Paul Benyon
    3. The Times of 20 Feb 1863 reports that: The right wing of the 61st Regiment of Foot arrived yesterday, by special train on the South Western line of railway, at Portsmouth from Aldershott (sic). The train proceeded over the Government line of rail from the Landport terminus to the dockyard, where the troops immediately embarked on board HM screw troop ship Megaera, Commander SH Henderson, for conveyance to Jersey. Ever since I first caught a bicycle wheel in that line in the 1950s I've wondered _when_ the first spur from the main SW line was taken into the dockyard. It may also be of interest to note that around this period the first tracks were being laid down for some of the cranes that operated alongside the various docks in Portsmouth dockyard, in order to speed up the placing of armour plating on new ships being built. 3. Could almost be the G parent of R WOOLGER who took body building contestant Arnie Shwartzenneger (I'll be back)under his wing back in the 50s. Ray WOOLGER ran a gym in Portsmouth at the time and had a son Ray WOOLGER who, I think, is still in the business unless, like me he has become of gentleman of leisure. The family lived within the diocese of St Mary Portsea until the 1970s when the moved to a gym in Southsea. Another R WOOLGAR (with an A), Ray again also went to the same school as Ray jn and struck out in a different direction, he went into Electricity Supply, he too will be retired now. Although both Rays were in the same class at school we never got them mixed up. 3. Good morning from a Cool and Blustery Sunshine Coast this morning, Reading on the List about Window and Hearth Taxes reminded me that I have noticed that the LDS have films available for Land Tax, covering Alverstoke/Gosport and I think from memory Portsmouth. Has anyone looked at these that could advise me what they contain. I have looked at Land Tax documents in the past for other areas and have found some of them with barely any information at all, and yet others have the full names of each tenant in every building in the area. Sometimes even the buildings are named. Thank you Eilleen Sunshine Coast Queensland
