    3. I have come across this before - with children of a young age, on other lists & it has been suggested it was an adopted child, or a child taken in, as their parents couldn't look after them, or they had died. 3. Not exactly a location specific census topic but I think the question could apply to any part of the country so I will go ahead and ask. I am looking at a page from the 1871 census and am slightly puzzled. On the census form (RG10/3714 page 37) in Bunbury, Cheshire are Samuel SIDDORNS age 75, his wife Ellen SIDDORNS age 65 and William SIDDORNS age 3 who in the column for Relation to Head of Family appears to have G Child and Nurse Child both entered against his name. I have never seen Nurse Child on a census form before and wondered if anyone had any ideas or information about the meaning of it. Also at the same address is a William CLARK who rather unfortunately for him is described as 'Ruptured'. Cheers, Alan Siddorn

    3. Hi Edna and All, My nurse child was with grandparents...I presume so because my GGgranny was already too old to have children but not too old to look after one. I have not found out what happened to the parents. The granny was Matilda Saunders in case someone out there might recognize her. Louise Banff, Canada Hi, Perhaps the woman could not nurse her baby so a child nurse was used. The other woman would already be nursing her own baby and would take on another for a fee. Remember in those days, there were no baby bottles. Cheers, Edna - Ottawa

    1. Emily Ann Vie MARSH
    2. Susan Dicker
    3. I am looking for info regarding the above and her parents. Emily Ann Vie was born in 1828 but as to where that is confusing. One census states Dorchester but all the others Portsmouth. With all the discussion recently about Porchester I am now beginning to wonder if the ennumerator got it wrong and it should have been Porchester not Dorchester. I have looked at the original and it definately states Dorchester, however... Emily's father was William MARSH who was a sawyer in the dockyard when she married in 1851. Her address was given as Cherry Garden Field Portsea. She married James LANE. Could someone clear up the question of her birth for me please? I have marriage death and census details. Thankyou Sue

    1. Mary HINES, burial lookup
    2. Rita Newton
    3. Hi Linda & Tony If you have the burial records for St John's Forton, could you look up a possible burial for me please. It may be in the 1/4 to June 1862 for a Mary HINES, she would have been about 74. They were living near to the Waterworks in Forton Road, so burial would be either St John's or Anns Hill Cemetery. She died between the 1861 Census & her husband's remarriage on 1 June 1862. The only possible I've found on 1837online is in the 1/4 to June 1862, but the reference is volume 3a, which isn't Alverstoke, but that may be a transcribing mistake. Thanks Rita

    2. Edna & Ken
    3. Further to the Cdn 1911 Census: Edna - Ottawa >>>>>>>>>>> "Just found the following on one of the Canadian lists. Guess we will all have to wait until Monday!! Just thought you all might like to know (if you didn't already) - in typical government fashion, the census images were made available of Friday much to everyone's delight. Then at about 530 or 6pm Friday evening all electricity in the building was shut down for the weekend to allow for electrical work to be done. Since the servers housing the census images for the 1901 and 1911 census are undoubtedly in the building, these servers were also shut down. There will be no electricity again until late Sunday evening or early Monday morning. Talk about a teaser! "

Does anyone know which churches are on the BVRI and not on the IGI, which might help me to find the parish. Thanks Rita

    2. Dear Ones, I want to start by letting you all know that my thoughts and prayers are for all with you all. God Bless the United Kingdom! My search for my Grandmother , Dorothea Frances Harrington Johnson Newton has taken some amazing twists. Rita, thanks for letting me know about the Harrington name- it helped alot. I've discovered that grandmother was using the name - Dorothy Harrington Johnson and was in Portsea in the 90's with her son Burton. I'm still looking. Thanks for all your help. I love you all!
