    1. Do they do it on purpose?
    2. J P NIXEY
    3. Hi everyone, The posting from tony and Linda about Miss Corn and Mr cob reminded me of a couple of guide dogs I had heard of, and how everyone who knew of them said the guide Dog Association purposely matched them up with specific people! The two that spring to mind are: Mark Perry, who was given a guide dog named Spencer. (Mark & Spencer?) and a dog named Happy was placed with a gent with the surname of Christmas! Not long after I had my 3rd guide dog Eddy, I heard of a dog called Trixey, and wished that I'd had her! Well Trixey Nixey doesn't sound bad does it! lol Regards to all, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG Anti-Virus. 3. I have to agree, I really like the sound of this idea. I would, as a website designer, though, advise not to publish such info on websites. Certainly keep it printed and stored in a folder, or burn onto CD. Personal information such as birth dates, marriage dates etc could be easilly picked up by unscrupulous people on the Internet, and their use of such personal data would cause untold havock for living people. regards to all, Jon -- No virus found in this outgoing message. 3. Hi All, I recall seeing a list of who it was illegal to marry, a little while ago, but I have learnt with my lot that anything is possible! Edna, I'm afraid I know very little about Jane Warren. I have her in 1851 as a widow, living with her mother Mary Warren, who is unfortunately also a widow. Fingers crossed her fathers name is legible on the marriage entry! Regards, Becci

    1. illegal marriage
    2. Hello all Peter is almost correct since the 1600s marriages between people who were related in various ways were forbidden by parliament as well as church law. These were known as The Prohibited Degrees. A marriage between two people within a prohibited degree needed a private act of parliament to permit it. The general prohibitions prevented someone marrying a brother or sister (or their spouse), parent, grandparent,Aunt,Uncle,Child or grandchild(or their spouse) neice or nephew (or their spouse) spouses child, grandchild, parent, aunt, uncle or grandparent. Changes to the law were made in 1907 and 1921 to allow people to marry the spouse of their brother or sister, provided that the brother or sister was deceased. (source Ancestral Trails - Mark D HERBER ISBN 0-7509-2484-5) Hope this helps,Linda and Tony Interesting request & statement. 2. Saw this and thought a little humour can brighten up ANYONES day! Linda and Tony MR. COBB WEDS MISS CORN Miss Margaret Corn was married to Mr. Stanley Cobb recently at El Paso, Texas at the home of the bride's parents. The marriage license clerk at the courthouse refused to issue the license, thinking it was a joke. When he convinced the clerk that it was on the level, Cobb shelled out for the license. * * * Found a humorous sign or entry in census, parish, church, etc. records? 3. Hello Linda and Tony, I knew that my Portsmouth grandfather DUST had been born in China in 1877and found his father had been in the Army. I finally found his birth registered in GRO Army Chaplain's Returns Indices (1796-1880) on 1837on-line, and so was able to send for his birth certificate, taking me further back. Could your great-uncle have been in India through being a Forces Dependant? There are also Consul's lists on that site. In looking for Grandfather I also found other brothers born abroad that my mother knew nothing about! So she at aged 90 is still learning! I have a page in front of me with some D and E names on it, several in India. Hope I'm not telling you things you already knew!!
