Hi Jan, I have specific entries from various plots at AHC but not complete plots, and the most recent entry is in 1948. I don't think I'd make a very good cemetery caretaker, as I've already lost the plot. ahmmmm. Take care, regards, JOn
Just had a thought. Has anybody else got copies of the actual plots as they are extremely useful to keep for reference. I don't mind calling into the Office now and again to ask for copies of different plots. Jan
I've been to the Cemetery Office today and have got a photocopy of all the bodies buried in plot 34. It's on the new side, quite close to the front on the right hand side. If anyone wants a name checked or a copy, you are more than welcome Jan
NAZARETH HOUSE Nazareth House was a school and orphanage in the 1940's from my remembrance and was run by nuns. It was at the bottom of Fawcett Road at the junction with Albert Road. Travelling from Fratton Bridge it was on the right hand side of the road. Certainly there was a convent in Commercial Road, but I thought it was a closed order. I am sure others in the area can enlighten you on this. Wendy
Hi Jan. Any KNIGHTs or HELLYERs laying about -- would be interested in those. Hi Margaret. I agree with you. My memory seems to go for an area of Commercial Rd, opposite Charles Dickens House possibly behind Mile End boys school. I think the Nuns had access through an alleyway. Albeit, I don't recall any signs displaying Nazareth House. Thanks to all who replied. This lady had been a widow for 29 yrs, so I'm assuming she was struggling and went into Nazareth House. I think Knox Road is Stamshaw, so if it was at Mile End, she hadn't travelled very far. Jan

Hi Jan, I have a 1946 Kellys and in that year, 60 Knox Road had a Thomas Mark as head and Nazareth House was listed as a Catholic Girl's day school at Lawrence Road, but it also says under Lawrence Rd,west side; Home for the Aged Poor & Orphan Children with Nazereth House in brackets. I've got a death in 1944 and the details from the grave plot state the address was Nazareth House of 60 Knox Road. I've googled and it states that Nazareth House was a convent/orphange and it closed in 1983 and was converted to flats. Any ideas as to why this widowed lady, aged 77 yrs would be in Nazareth House?

Hi Everyone, Nice to be back in UK, have not posted for some time, and thought I would ask if there are any other listers who are researching the Budden family in the Chalton, Idsworth, Catherington and surrounding area? Would love to hear from anyone who is? Cheers, Ray ___________________________________________________________ To help you stay safe and secure online, we've developed the all new Yahoo! Hi everyone, Very many thanks to a very kind lister on one of Rootsweb's Hampshire lists who directed me to Ancestry's 1891 Scottish census, and Edward Paterson b1891 Greenock, Renfrewshire. He was the son of Alexander and Mary, Mary's maiden name appears to have been Bucklitsch (evidently the 2nd forename of Edward Paterson that caused some problem reading it on his marriage cert to Florence Kate Albery at St John's Forton, Gosport on Oct 9, 1915). I'm still a little held up on the Paterson family, the 1881 census would have helped enormously I think, but I now have the Bucklitsch family right back to the turn of the 19th century in Aberdeenshire. It's been a great afternoon for me, I hope everyone else's has been as successful and pleasureable! Kind regards to all, Jon
Hi Jon, Nice to hear of your success. I am still looking for the date of birth for my William Dowse who became a Carpenter RN and as far as I can ascertain would have been born about 1800. I wonder if he was the son of William DOWSE the Master at Arms of HMS Bellerophon which took part in the Battl;e of Trafalgar. This William was born in London about 1764. It would be nice to find positive links. Mike Waterlooville

Hi Linda & Tony, I meant the enumerator's marks are unambiguous, ie he marked his sheet clearly and it is quite readable. Whether that reflects what the householder returned is, of course, another matter, and could be said of all the censuses for which we only have the enumerator's book which, as you say is itself a transcript. However we don't know what the householder returned, can only go by what the enumerator put down and, with any luck, verify it (or not!) with other evidence. BTW I didn't mention Rebecca's age. Cheers, Ian Linda & Tony wrote: > Hi all > The whole point is that the enumerators despite having set instructions as > to how to separate households often failed to do so and so we would add that > it is not possible to say a census is unambiguous.
