    3. There is in the Hugh Wallis IGI C073573 a birth of a Louisa Lambert MITCHELL born to Charles MITCHELL and Mary SIMS. This would tie into the 1841 where there is a Louisa in the family aged 7. I think that all the evidence I have at the moment point to his parents being the above, but it would still be nice to have the marriage details to prove it for sure. Bob

    3. bob, 1851 shows a possible family .... Elizabeth you mentioned was born abt 1822 at Bexley, Kent, and is head of house with a brother Charles of correct age born Gosport, and a Mary Ann and Lydia too recorded as sisters. But .... if Mary Ann married a Henry Watson, then she is shown in 1851 as born abt 1819. There are 2 children Henry C. age 8 and Emily age 2. there is also a Charles Mitchell b Gosport who is age 79 and father in law to Henry Watson in this household. So, a bit of a confusing mixup here maybe? Regards, Jon

    3. Thanks Jon I have seen them and yes you are right that it is a good match, however have never seen the father who I believe was Charles as well. I have this Mary SIMS/SIMMS who I believe was the mother but it is just getting them together. As for your other email I believe he had siblings of Elizabeth 1822 Mary 1823 and Lydia 1834 Bob

    3. Good afternoon to the List, My ancestor said that he was born c 1789 in Portsmouth but there doesn't seem to be a record of a baptism there and, as he turns up briefly in 1804 in Port Jackson NSW, joining the RN, I think that his father could have been a ship's captain and the family was passing through Portsmouth. Are there any suggestions for searching for which captains might have been in port - I don't think that the father was RN. My ancestor was John Willoughby Watt and I've no idea what his father's christian name would have been as John had only one daughter. I think that the name Willoughby features strongly as it's still in the family. I'd be very grateful for any suggestions, Thanks, Di

    3. Hello, A week or so ago I wrote to see if anyone could help me with a few old names and addresses I found amongst my g.f. belongings. I received a few responses, however, my computer began to misbehave for a couple of days and I lost quite a lot of information. If anyone other than those I have responded to have information I would appreciate hearing from you. Kind regards, Joan. Sydney. Australia.

    3. Hi everyone, I've found a Charles Luff aged 3 at Alverstoke in the 1841 census, but ancestry has him listed on his own. I checked the transcribed details of others on the same page, and there are two ladies with the surname Cooper. As Charles' mum's maiden name was Cooper, I was wondering if a kind lister could check the actual image for me please to see if Charles was actually in the same household as them? the ref is: HO107; Piece 388; Book: 4; Civil Parish: Alverstoke; County: Hampshire; Enumeration District: 16; Folio: 28; Page: 18; Line: 3; GSU roll: 288794. 3. For anybody planning a visit to the old side of Ann's Hill Cemetery, for the back section, don't bother. I've just come back from there and Plots 1-24 have been left to grow wild and the grass must be about three feet tall. It's disgusting and I'm going to have a word with the groundsman when I see him next and will ask why it has been left and what they plan to do about it. The headstones are barely visible and goodness only knows what's lurking in the long grass! Regards Jan

    3. Hello Jon. I've just been down to Gosport Local Studies and looked up the marriage that you were after. Charles Luff married Mary Ann Cooper 25th January 1834 St.Mary's Alverstoke. Both single and of the parish. Married after Banns and both unable to write, so signed with a cross. Witnesses James Luff and Sarah Knight. Regards Jan
