It would be interesting to know if any of the various JONES lines hook up further back. In the Autumn 1994 edition of Forest Footsteps the Journal of the defunct Royal Forest of Dean Family History Society the following appeared on p8: "BETTY AND COLIN JONES have presented the Society with a large box containing what appears to be the records of all the Jones families that have ever lived in the Forest. We are very indebted to them both. It may be a long job to present the data in a form accesible to all members but in the meantime it is going to our librarian Bob JONES for appraisal." I would be greatly interested to hear from anyone on the mailing list who might have any clues as to the fate of this large box. Gordon Morley Orleans Ontario

Yes indeed, and the rest of the records too. Members were promised that details of the records disposal would be forwarded to them. We were also promised a refund of subscriptions, which had only just been paid when the Society folded. I'm still waiting. Maybe a complaint to the FFHS would be appropriate. =============================== David Steel <[email protected]> Adelaide, South Australia keeper of the Gloucestershire Surnames List at <http://www.tpg.com.au/users/dsteel/glsnames.htm> =================================================
