    3. Hello all, I am interested in the HARRIS family of Whitecroft, West Dean. 1851 census details are: Lower Row, Whitecroft. Nimila HARRIS 45 u Seamstress. born Woolaston. William do son 17 u Coal miner. born Blakeney. Alfred do do 10 b. Whitecroft. (My g.grandfather.) Calib do do 7 do Alfred HARRIS married Elizabeth MORTIMER of Bristol, at Stratford on Avon in 1865. On his marriage certificate he gave his father as William HARRIS. The 1851 census suggests Nimila the mother was unmarried . Perhaps they both bore the same surname. I have checked with the IGI without success. I have applied to the Registrars for certificates but without success. They say that their records were bomb damaged in the 2nd world war. In 1891, Alfred HARRIS and his family lived at Chapel Hill, Whitecroft, for which I have details, likewise the 1881 census. One of his youngest was Caleb born 1879, my grandfather. Caleb moved to the Rhondda Valley , Treherbert, to mine the coal fields. He died there 1940, a year after my birth to his son, Glyndwr. My brick wall is Nimila HARRIS, her perhaps husband, lover, William HARRIS, and their offspring. Does anyone know where I can purchase the 1861 and 1871 census returns for Whitecroft and their reference numbers? Is it possible to purchase the BMD fiche ? If anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks from Jocelyn GRIFFITHS, nee HARRIS, now of Milford Haven, Pembrokeshire.
