    3. Hi Bill: Just noticed your bit about the GWILLIAM connection. We lived near a family of GWILLIAM's in a lane off Joyford hill. I think it would be somewhere near where the Lonk is today. Dad worked at Cannop pit and we rented a cottage off Mr GWILLIAM for 4/6 a week. (I have the rent book.) I realize that there were a lot of GWILLIAMs in the Forest, but thought that this might be your Grancher or a relative. I have walked along there and cycled along the old rail track (not long after the track was lifted.) I vaugely remember seeing a steam train waiting at Symonds Yat station... probably the last one before the line was closed I must have been about four Bet they wish that line was still there today...As a tourist railway from Chepstow to Ross it would make a motsa!!!!! I have just been looking at the old maps to find the route my GWILLIAM forebears would have used to cart the coal from Farmer's Folly pit down to "Bicknor Siding" The line stayed open from Ross to the Cable Works for some time longer taking the cable via Kerne Bridge and Ross Regards Bill Nash ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, February 16, 2001 6:31 PM Subject: Re: [GLS] Re: Forest of Dean - Biblins > In a message dated 15/02/01 14:40:02 GMT Standard Time, > [email protected] writes: > > << there was a suspension footbridge >> > It's still there - and if you walk along a bit towards Symonds Yat you can > cross back on the ferry-boat which is pulled across on a rope.
