Can anyone help with a small problem relating to Alvington? In 1946 the wife of Roy WORKMAN - nee Hildegarde Mary Elizabeth LEWIS, married 20 August 1925, daughter of John Joseph LEWIS - said that her grandfather and his brother had been morris dancers at Alvington. I've hit a brick wall trying to find the marriage of John Joseph LEWIS, and thus push back the family to the necessary generation. >From information given, my best instincts tell me that Mrs. Workman's grandfather was probably John HOWELL, buried 4 June 1912, aged 88. I don't find a baptism, however. There is a James HOWELL, baptised 7 April 1822 to Ellen, 'single woman', who may be James' brother. I would be delighted (and grateful) if anyone can make the link.
