Hi Lodger Jenkins is George, aged 20, born Bath, who I think marries Caroline Baldwin. The clarification comes from a lookup on a better transcription. On the other hand I am "claiming" Sarah Davis as my gggrandmother and Maria, widow, as Shadrach's mother (so ggggrandmother) - just need the "proof" now. A search of 1851 has failed to find my Shadrach but I have a theory that he was not enumerated as he was signing for his freeminer status the following day so would be travelling on census day. So I have stopped looking for him on 1851 census but 1861 census will give valuable info so this will be my next target. I did mention that I had a photo in a brooch that has come down to me through my maternal grandmother. I went to the local museum yesterday to try to date the photo - we decided that it was of a woman aged about 40-50 in 1860 style dress. It is a tinted photo (which they produced from 1860 onwards). 1860 style was still being worn by older women/working women/methodist women much later. I recon the pic is of Sarah Jenkins nee Davis, born 1827, so 50 in 1877 and the pic was taken in late 1870's for husband Shadrach or son John to take with them when they "emigrated" to Stoke-on-Trent. Shadrach and John went to SOT first (before 1881) then Sarah and other family followed later (after 1881). I have also been playing with the Glos Genealogy database. There are 5 non-conformist entries for a Shadrach as father that also match the dates for a Sarah as mother - and 4 of the dates correspond with the birth dates of the 4 known children. I am now going to try and work out who the 5th one is by looking to see who was born in 1862. I can order the entries - but at £18 each!! Way out of my pocket at the moment. One of the children is Evan Neary Jenkins born 1865, but elsewhere I have him as Evan Keary Jenkins - usual questions I ask myself are which is correct and where on earth does Neary/Keary come from!! Only clue is that an Evan Jenkins, born Glos, aged 16 is on 1881 census living with the Neary family in London. Maybe that when Shadrach and John moved to SOT, Shadrach's son Evan ran away to London. The ironic thing is that this Evan is a barman living in a pub - a bit off for a methodist son!! By 1901 there is an Evan Jenkins, 35, working as a miner in SOT so maybe he mended his ways, but as yet there is no sign of a wife and family for him (need to down load the 1901 entry yet to learn more). Thanks for the web links - lots of Jenkins listed on one site but no indication of county or mine (you have to pay for that info!) - but at least I have written down the names. But still no Meshach - I have a memory that the web site I saw it on had a lime green background and the name was mis-spelt but age was 18.
